Our wedding was a less formal event. Since it was my 2nd marriage, but David's 1st - we were trying to go for "middle ground", and also as parents of 2 from a previous marriage, couldn't go too crazy on money!
Wish I had a picture to show, but we had black wrought iron bird-cage lanterns that we cemented into terra cotta pots. We then put florists (that green stuff that holds water! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />) and moss on top, and ivy from David's parent's yard (they have tons of it) Oh the terra cotta pots were painted black.
So the effect was still very elegant, but not expensive at all, black lanterns and pots with the green ivy trailing, and the soft glow of the candles in the lanterns (vanilla scented of course, so as not to compete with the cake!)
People often overlook that about candles. You should always get unscented or vanilla scented candles, because you have scents from your flowers, your catering, and your cakes; if you add in a scent from your candles it is too overwhelming!
