i have been fighting finrot with him since the day i got him. I thought i had him over it and quit putting the melafix in his water and it came back worse than ever. I have since bleached ( rinsed and it has been air dry for 2 days now) his main tank. He is back in his small tank getting daily 25% water changes with the water doctored with melafix. there are some transparent patches of fin on his bottom and tail fin, is that more rot or is that regrowth? there are less brown and bloody looking edges on his fins now though.

I think the transparent parts are regrowth. I am sorry you having such a hard time getting him over it. It can be a pain in the butt! Sounds like you are doing everything right. Hang in there!

just an update on Crimson, his tail dosent look shredded anymore thank god. it has grown together but he lost quite a bit off the end. i refilled his main tank today and i know you dont have to let them cycle but i will run it for a week before i move Crimson in there just to be safe. today he got a 90% water change and he will get daily 25% water changes for another week, the water of course has melafix in it.

I do have a question on the Melafix though, I have a dropper that lets me measure .5 oz which is what is suggested to use for 1 gallon. But it says dose every day for 7 days then do a 25% water change. Does the melafix wear off after 24 hours or what is the deal with that? I dont want to be constantly increasing the ion load of Crimsons water.

Oh i found out something cool about him too when i was using the flashlight to check his tail out, if i hold the flashlight behind him and loot at it, the end of his tail where it is blue turns white, and the rest of his body turns blood red.

The melafix dosage may be like that so that it gradually increases the melafix to a therapeutic level instead of just dumping it all in at once. (i don't know, just a thought)

Just to be safe I would probably do it exactly like the bottle says and not do a water change for a week.
good luck!!

I would say he's feeling better! They can certainly pout so I would assume they can get ticked off.

what do ya know, i decided to put him in his big tank early, i was going to keep him in the hospital tank for a nother week and i swear i have never seen him so active as he is now. I watch him swim and i get dizzy trying to follow him around lol. When he knows i am looking at him he will parade back and forth in like a 2inch section in front of his aquarium lol.
