when she was 9 her parents kicked her sister out of the house...sent her to drug rehab and all that...took a restraining order out on her etc etc. she went from being the little sister to only child. she gets easily stressed out and she sometimes does relapse...but im hoping that her upcoming graduation and new boyfriend will help her move on further to recovery

If anyone has ever seen the movie 'THE SECRETARY' it's a very sweet story about a girl who cuts herself who finds an interesting way to get over her compulsion and feel self-worth.

I was upset to see an indentation that almost looks like a hole but it's above the area I'd have done. Below that, there are lines that almost look like - tree branches! I'm getting ideas now, lol!

Parthena, even before I read this I immediately had the impression of Ivy vines, or rose vines; because I was thinking about how they would look as you move! And once that "hole" is healed over enough, you can tattoo a rose (or other design) around it so that it looks like it has depth. Ooooo if you go with the snake idea an Oroubos!

Wow Michelle - I was thinking about having the ouroubos going in a circle around my waist! now that I'm starting to get one thanks to bellydance - or my hips are building up. I'll take either - yes, there are some of us who want more curves! It's a shame we can't just swap our fat around!

Rae - as for pain, the one on my hip barely hurt at all, and there is almost no feeling on the left side of my back from the nerve damage but I'm sure it would hurt on top of bone, so we'll try to avoid that.

I just found out that my nephew is moving back this way, and he can do tattoos! I'll have to see some of his work first. I also missed the news that tat's are no longer illegal in Oklahoma - the reason being is that they can be removed. Permanence was the premise of the law. I believe it's still being fought, but for now they're legal.

I'll have to check out that movie....I'm guessing her healing has something to do with body art?

New here and wanted to say Hi! I was in a motorcycle wreck last year. The scars would send small children running and screaming in fear, lol. We have a close friend that owns a shop and he has already planned my new tat. Since I had to have external fixators I have a lot of pin site scars that look like puncture wounds. His plan is to start with a dragon head on the outside of my right thigh (which has a LARGE scar from being a donor site for a skin graft) and have it wind down and around my leg so that it's tail covers the scars on my foot. He is going to use the pin sites to depict claw marks. The scars are so deep and so bad that he says we have to wait at least a couple of years from whenever my last surgery is( Just had the 9th one Dec 5th,2005) to start. There is a large place near my ankle that recieved SEVERE damage and there is no possible way to tattoo over it so his going to make it look like the dragon took a bit out it. I am also missing half of my calf muscle and he is going to make that look bitten off also. He figures about 100 hrs of tatting will get it all done. He has done several tats for me, my husband and my sons. I don't know if we can put up a website on here or not, let me know. He has won major awards here in tennessee and maintains a 100 on his health inspections. I wouldn't dream of letting anyone else do my leg.
You spoke of a what looks like a hole and maybe something with snakes, you could possibly incorporate the hole into a snake bite.

Did the doctor suggest anything to reduce the height and soften the texture of the scars? Silicone scar pads taped firmly over the area will help the body break down and re-absort the scar tissue. An olive oil massage will also help. A more costly suggestion would be to find a plastic surgeon to do a scar revision, essentially cleanly cutting away the scar and suturing the skin back together. You might want to put off any tattoo plans until you see if you can make the scars less noticible.

I hope you don't mind my jumping in here, but I am in much the same boat as Parthena. I've had spinal fusion and a spinal cord stimulator implant which have left some nasty scars on my back. I have always wanted a tattoo over the fusion scar, but now that I have the stimulator, the wires are impanted right under the skin and I cannot have a tattoo there. The implant site needs to be reopened every 7 years or so for a battery change, so that would need to be taken into consideration as well.
I have been told that yes, you can have scars tattooed over and some shops actually specialize in that. The only issue is as Rae said, the age of the tattoo and from what I have been told the type of ink used. I really don't know why it matters, but the consistency of the ink effects how it flows under the skin. I really want a tattoo, it took me 20 years to get up the courage for a nose piercing! LOL If you decide to get it done, I hope it works out for you-let me know! I am also interested in the belly dancing thing...

wow...

first: congratulations on the pain situation!! that's fantastic

second: belly dancing rocks... smile

third: you have your answers on the scar tissue thing but..... I had no idea tattooing was illegal in some states!?!?

Is it the tattooing that is illegal or the receiving them? I mean what if you give yourself a tattoo in your own home? Is that illegal?

wow. smile insanity!!!
