I want to send money to Poland, and will not send cash, so what is the fastest, safest, and best way to send this.
Can I just send my own check, or do I need a money order, or cashiers check? What is best?

In the UK I have found a bank transfer of some form is the safest and fastest.

I have "sent money" to friends in England using Travelers' Checks Travelers' Checks made out in the name of the recipient.

This might work out for you...your recipient would then need to take the Travelers' Checks to a Kantor. (You better check on this. Although, I have been told Kantors give the best exchange rate, perhaps they don't do these checks. Maybe a commercial bank is necessary to cash them.

Members of the American Automobile Association (AAA) can obtain these checks free of charge; commercial U.S. banks also issue them, however, there is a small fee involved.

The nice thing about Travelers' Checks is that they can be cashed only by the person whose name is on them and if lost can be reported as such and new ones reissued.

You are correct...it is never a good idea to send cash in the mail

Good Luck...please let us know what you decide to do and whether or not it works.

Go Western Union. Cash is available through many outlets all over Poland; it is available in Poland just minutes after you pay. You pick it up showing ID or Passport. The cost: about $40 USD for each 1000 transfered.

If these people have PeKaO account it is also possible to send them money through the PeKaO transfer. This is what I am always doing.

I sent money using PeKaO (it is now called US Money Express website: http://www.usmoneyexpress.com/ ). It was delivered as a check to the recipient's home, he had to take it to one of the PKO banks, where they gave him the money. He did not have to have an account there, just the check and identification. The cost was equal to or even less than the Western Union system.
