I just wanted to take the time to thank Rae and everyone who has posted here as I got my first tattoo on Saturday. Having thought about it for a long time all the great advice and info I found on these boards and in Rae's info sections made the whole experience as good as it could be.
Only downside - didn't realise how much it would hurt in the first coupld of days of healing especially as it is just at the worng pressure point for my car seat - ow. I am a bit of a baby - its not that bad! Certainly knwoing what to expect from the articles enabled me to relax - as much as I could! - during the actual inking.

Thanks again to all <img src="/images/graemlins/king.gif" alt="" />

Hey, Pamela!

I'm so glad to hear that you felt you got good advice from your visits to Bella. And hang in there, the surface discomfort from tattooing tends to only last a week or so! I often feel like I'm dealing with a sunburn when I work through the first few days after being tattooed, and I've learned specifics about how I sleep and dress over the years, that's for sure....

Yeah your right it is like bad sunburn although not something we experience very often over here in Scotland. It is kind of like the sunburn I got in Vegas in May, boy I'll not be doing that again.
It is better today, more bearable and less red.

I have a favorite after-tattoo t-shirt that is very soft and worn, and I tend to wear that around the house constantly when I am healing a new piece of ink. That helps. Taking slightly cooler showers or baths can help, as warm or hot water can often sting on a fresh tattoo, as the surface of the skin is still unhealed.
