With all these recent references to lard (you can call it smalec, but it is still lard) and the linking of my name, in several threads with it (excuse me while I just go to the bathroom!) I have made a major decision that I hope will be accepted by you all:

I hereby declare, as the only remaining active member of the forum in the UK, that today 7 November 2005 and for ever after shall be called 'International Smalec Day'. Notice my compassion for my fellow mankind by not calling it 'International Lard Day'.

How about that folks?

Non-lardy Leslie (in some parts of UK 'lardy' is used about people in a particular context). <img src="/images/graemlins/king.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/music.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wall.gif" alt="" />

Hi Zooba, Thank you for asking such a penetrating question! There is no real context or even a reason behind my suggestion except that Kai, Adam and Jerzy seem to think I'm an English peasant who doesn't know his lard from his smalec, and they sing so highly the praises of lard/smalec. So it seemed an excellent move to make this International day so that people all over the world will be encouraged to meet smalec, if they haven't done so already and encounter its delights - as long as there is a bathroom nearby.
I shall mention this 'Day' in all the articles I write and in any further books I may be able to con publishers into accepting. You can see the 'impression' this lard/smalec has made on me on the times I have blundered into it!
Good to hear from you
Leslie

Very nice, Forza!
I think that next year we should send Leslie a chique gift on 7th Ocotber - a jar of good Siberian-Polish lard. Alright Leslie?

I think Forza is a great guy who has all the right ideas and attitudes. And Adam, you know what to do with your jar of lard, wherever it comes from! But I know the thought behind the suggestion was kind.

Alright, don't be so modest, Leslie. You can say it straightfoward. Two jars?

Leslie,

I don't know if I want our <img src="/images/graemlins/king.gif" alt="" />Frank's birthday (Nov. 7) associated with your smalec, so I demand <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> that you change it to Nov. 6, which is when the fun began.

May 32 is a good idea, but smalec is probably best eaten before winter hibernation.
