Chris,
You know, I have heard of Moscow Idaho, but only have a faint idea of where it is located. yes of course, I know where Idaho is, it is just the actual locations of the various locations (if this make some sense).
Boy, I do trust you guys were not stuck by those storms that have visited on the areas of Lousianna and Florida....
Please do have patience with me now, what is US CENTCOM? Yes, I am so smart and know nothing.
Plattdeutsch, were this of the North Dialect or perhaps flemisch?
Charles

Charles - Sorry US CENTCOM - United States Central Command My grandparents were Mennonites and as I understand it - plattdeutsch is a dialect spoken by Mennonites. Because of religious persecution the Mennonites moved around quite a bit picking up the local dialect and adding it to their orginal german. My grandmother was born near Lublin, Poland.
And you don't know it but you have a treat in store - just wait until you meet Leslie! Offer him smalec he loves it!

Hi Chris, I think I figured it out of US CENTCOM. Your husbands in the military. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/centcom.htmWould this be the department? I had not a code to go by and so was, so to speak, taking shots in the dark. Some of the codes are as, for example: a #373 then what ever preceeding number to follow through for the individual department (diffinantly not a conflict pertaining to the secrecy act) Charles

Hi Chris, I think perhaps your time is about three hours in-front of ours. We here are at 1714, would this sound correct? Your parents, they were Mennonites? Boy, I have met only some few of them, and, I truly do believe they can make a desert grow flowers!!! truly so, indeed.. I would only emgine that they have left with you as their decendent, this ablilty.. They are truly a gifted people. http://www.scrapbookpages.com/Poland/Lublin/Lublin01.htmlNot so sure, would this above be the town your parents came from? I must opologize for using the above url, as it is some what depressing from photos of the war years. I was just anzious to please and used what was readly available as a resource. Now, what am I being set up for with Leslie? At least do tell me before the inqusition sets in and my body limbs are spread assunder to be food for the crows. I have had not the time to reseach as to smalec. Would this to be a malady of some sort? Or, perhaps an intrusion upon a private joke? Now tell me now, please... Charles

Charles,
welcome in our forum. Thank you so much for posting such a nice message! We have many nice people here, not all have anything to do with Poland - Carl, a Renaissance guy has just interests in many cultures but he is not Polish by origin, Kai has some Slovak blood and knows German like you and me.
So Wilkommen, do not feel in anyways intimidated by a level of our discussions. We try to discuss about something rather than nothing (therefore I hope the discussions have some values) - but as you noticed we do not only concentrate on Poland only.

Hello Charles! Wilkommen an Bord. Which meaning of bescheid inspired the choice as moniker? No need for intimidation at some of the discussions, we all know a few things well and we all are fairly ignorant about a few other things. That is what makes for discussion.
I am from the north-north west, Alaska, but qualify as a southerner on this Forum since Slovakia lies south of Poland. I spent ten years working in Europe with most of that in Germany, so I know that culture quite well. With family in Czech & Slovak Republics that pretty well rounds out my background.
With the Germans romping around Europe at the same time as our ancestors, and with them being neighbors of Poland, German & neighborhood politics are regular topics of conversation around here.
So welcome!
Kai

Dear JagaBella,
It is very good to meet you and a very charming person that you are, thank you for your very nice welcom. It is my sincer trust that I may be able to contribute to your forum to the best I have to offer. I am not sure, but, as life is, we see what is around the corner when we arrive there.
I was struck by your consideration and sensitivy by mention of non polish people also on the forum, I was hesitant in joining, you and others though, have made me comfortable that, my fears were entirely unjustified, thank you....
There certainly is a nice mix here, just as you described, many of Polish, American, Slovak (Kai)(I have not yet the pleasure to have met, but do hope so in the near future.
Thank you for your very nice welcom, I will look forward to future discussions and exchanges.
Sincerly
Charles

Witaj Charles,
I think it will be a pleasure to have you on this forum.
I am Polish-American, in Massachusetts, my ancestors are from the area near Rzeszow.
You should not feel "set-up" because of Leslie and the smalec - if you read the other posts from today, you will see we had a big dicussion that was both serious and also a joke about this "food." You will see how crazy we are - the discussion about smalec is mostly under "Snow in St. Petersburg."
welcome to the forum, Nancy

Hello Kai, it is good to meet with you. JagaBella spoke very highly of you, and I truly do believe she was correct on, you are a very nice gentleman.
You are very well travelled I see. Those many years working in Europe, you have a very healthy out look toward other nations, happyly so, I must say...
So also as Alaska, also you are Slovak/Czech. Well, if the skys fall on us, you certainly have some good escape routs to go.
I was laughing some what on the Bescheid address. Long story. Run into some conflicts as to an e-mail address that would work. Bescheid came to mind to use, and it worked. One of those panic decisions a person makes when faced with a dragon I would suppose.
It would appear that German is rather common in as much as your self, also that of JagaBella. I certainly do trust that others would not be offended though. I would certainly dread just making friends, then tossed out on my ear. Besides, hurts when a person hits.
Thank you Kai for your very nice greeting, I do feel more comfortable now.
Charles

Hi Nancy, very pleased to meet you, and thank you so very much for your very warm welcom. I see you are Polish/American and know exactly your back ground. Do you have the opportuntity to visit your relatives. It seems when you enjoy the love of your family, time and distance is only relative, or so I would guess.
Massachusetts, is cold there? I have heard that it is very scenic in the fall when the trees turn, you are very fortunant to live there.
I know there are Polish families in this area, but, primarly it is a scandinavian area. A few German families, some Russian and Ukrainian families sprinkled about, but mainly viking.
yes, you were right with Smalec, I was just researching some of the conversations and figured it out, not so sure I would want to try it though, but, who knows, time and opportunity is a great learning tool.
Thank you Nancy for your friendship, it is a pleasure to meet you.
Charles
