Thanks to all who helped me with information about the K. Monument near Cracow

Now...can anyone point me to more information (in English)...history etc...about the Monument and Austrian Fortress?

Information can either be online or in book form. I have good luck in borrowing books from our local library through Interlibrary loan.

I did not have time to check to see if there was a kiosk of some kind selling books, etc. inside the fortress. The cafeteria / snack bar (which was closed) looked to have a few items dispkayed in their window. We were there first thing in the morning...it was lovely!

Again...many thanks

Have you checked through Google, yet? If yes, here are some queries for those who bother to learn more:

Redbud,
Not to too my own horn, but you may want to check out my Webshot album at http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=310054272
The last photo in the album is of the Mound and the Austrian Fort/Chapel.
Part of the Fort is now a very nice hotel and a Radio station occupies the bulk. As well as the fort itself you can still still see the old arms bunkers. There are several Austrian Fortification around Crackow most are not restorted but worth a visit (if you are into that sort of thing). As I understand the story, once the Austrians took control of Wavel as the highest point in Crackow - that is when people took their buckets and raised the Mound until it became the highest point in Cracow. The Austrians then built the fort around the Mound to keep people out.

Thank you to both Hollister & ForzaPogon for your information...

ForzaPogon, yes, I did "google" for monument information but not the ways in which you suggest...I will do this later when I have some time to think about the subject. Live and learn daily

Hollister, thank you for the link to your pictures...again I will check them out later today. Also, thank you for the anecdotal information about the mound...again it further explains some of what I saw and have in my pictures. I worry about images first and then unfortunately about what it is that I have images of...

As an aside...Galicia is the area from which one of my grandparents immigrated in the late 1880's. The anecdote told to me (and siblings) is that the area was "German", not "Austrian." Being an interested lover of history, but not a fantastic student, this information is a revelation to me and explains more about I viewed in the Krakow area.

Again...thanks to you both,
