I know there are several people from and familar with Cracow who read these posts...therefore I have a question to ask. I have several photographs of a monument near Cracow across the River Vistula. It is basically a big green mound with a trail spiraling to the top. There is a view of the Royal Castle area across the river and through the trees. Unfortunately, I did not immediately write down the name and history of this monument when my guide explained it. I can not find any mention of this area on line or in my guide books. Can anyone help me? A name and some history would be nice; some sources would be extra nice so I have some references. I could attach a photo (!) but haven't figured out to do it. Thanks!

Hello Garden Moma, I am probably the least informed on this forum, so hopefully Jaga or Jerzy (both from Krakow) will correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know, there are 4 such mounds near Krakow. The best known is Krakus Mound, thought to be the tomb of the founder of the city. You can see some photos here: http://www.krakow4u.pl/eng_index.php?parametr=eng_kopce_glwDoes one match your picture?

Nancy,
thanks for a help. I am pretty sure this is Kosciuszko mount. It is easily visible from the house of my parents and also there is a good look from there to the Wawel. You can even see it on your picture

Thank you Nancy & Jaga,
Now, I have a name. I looked at the photos on the site Jaga suggested and that is my mystery.
I did a quick "Google" and "Bella" search, but could not come up with any history.
The guide told about people from all over Poland each bringing one bucket of soil until the mound was built. Fact or fiction?

Garden Mama, thanks for your question! Kosciuszko mount is situated in a very visible part of Krakow, now it is surrounded not only by ruins of the austrian fortress but also there is a caffeteria there. Yes, it was built by the hands of Polish patriots
Nancy,
Rekawka? I didnot post it yet at our website.
