Bob, Have you ever heard the expression (about a shy person): "she could not say "boo" to a goose." come to think of it, geese can be fierce, so confronting one would take some courage.

OK Nancy, thanks for the explaniation. See! I am dense. Geese may think they are fierce but, did you ever try to approach a flock of Whistler Swans? Or how about the Ratite Bird?

Leslie,
You really know your ornithology if you know about the Wotsthehellsat Bird! That is a rare species that roosts in Alaska during the summer and is traditionally hunted by Indians ofrom the Wherthehellowi Tribe. As you know this is the last nomadic tribe in Alaska, and they are hard to track because of their wanderings that even THEY have a tough time keeping track of!

Ah Kai I know the Wherthehellowi Tribe - they live in high grassland and have to keep jumping up shouting the name of their tribe to see where they are. Yes?. We have an advert on TV showing them doing this (and that's not all it shows!) Leslie

Oops, my mistake, I should have said Ratite(s) or Ratite bird(s). The Ratites are the group of large flightless birds which include the Ostrich and Emu. What I meant to include is the Cassowary of Australia. I once tried to approach a flock of Whistler Swans that were browsing a lake shore. The Swans warned me off with their hissing "back off", "don't come any closer". A flock of geese can raise a ruckus when approached and make good "watch birds".

A flock of geese can raise a ruckus when approached and make good "watch birds". Yes, Rome was once saved by geese. They warned Romans that Galls were approaching city gates. PS. You didn`t remember the English saying about the goose, but I didn`t know the word "lore." I had to look it up. Well, we have a draw then. ha ha ha ha
