Question to Polish visitors about the pecularities of America.
Right now pres. Bush approval ratings are very low, this week was difficult to the White House - withdrawal of Miers, scandal in the White House, benchmark in crossing 2 thousands dead Am soldiers in Iraq.
The only american state in which approval rate for the president is above 50 % is Utah (61% people still support Bush policy), the second one is Idaho but the proportion there is ...44:55 (but Idaho is close to Utah).
Now my question, what is a pecularity of Utah? In many statistics Utah is on the first or on the last place. For instance... in Utah people marry when they are less than 24 in the average which locates Utah the first in the age of first married people and the lowest amount of couples live without the marriage.

I was wrong. There are still 6 states in the USA where people support more pres. Bush than mistrust him. In Idaho the proportion is 55:44 not the other way around
So, what is so peculiar about Utah?

Utah is the U.S. center of Mormon religion and culture (a Christian sect) since Mormonism started in the 19th century. They are extremely conservative religiouly, and probably also politically, so I'm not surprised they are such ardent Bush supporters. I'm not that familiar with basic Mormon beliefs, but I'm sure a Google search would turn up tons of info.

Susan,
LDS are nice people but their beliefs are a bit weird. They believe for instance in a celestial marriage or marriages - the marriage lasting through the eternity, sometimes with several... brides - probably my husband would love this idea

Jaga. The 1st soldier killed is as important as the 2000th. Proportion Jaga Proporation. It is sad that so many Americans have a memory that is limited to what happened yesterday. In the 1st 7 minutes of the Battle of Cold Harbor in VA it is said that there were 7000 Casualities. The Marines who assaulted Iwo Jima and Tarawa during WW2 would consider 2000 as a very low casuality count. The soldiers that assaulted the beaches of Normandy would consider 2000 as very low. In Iraq we engaged the enemy on the ground instead of in the air like Bill Clinton did. I did not see one Jugoslavian soldier charge across my front lawn yet Bill Clinton decided to murder a bunch of innocent civilians and today we still have armed forces in the Balkins. Jesus was not very popular in his time and was nailed to a cross. The job of a leader is to lead and not stick a finger in the wind to see which way the wind is blowing. Can anyone remember the names of the critics or what they wrote about Lincoln, Teddy Rooseveldt, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower or JFK? Heck, People cannot even remember the names of the news organizations that they wrote for.

Bob,
I have a hard time to justify Iraq's war but I respect your views and I am sorry that I brought this subject again.
I really would like to sit with you with a cup of coffee and chat than to talk about the politics (my fault).

Jaga. No problem. Every good viewpoint like yours deserves a retort or response. I think you were just letting off a little built up steam and so was I. The world would be a sad and miserable place if everyone agreed (see, God wasn't stupid when the human race was created). Sometimes I can hardly live with myself, let alone hold a conversation with me (its only when I answer back, that I begin to worry). Who remembers the commanders in the 1st and 2nd Punic Wars? It is better to vent your frustrations here on the forum rather than at home with your family.

Yes, Scipio Africanus was the winner. But his father Publius Cornelius Scipio was defeated by Hannibal, yet the people of Rome didn't turn their backs at him in hard time, he was supported for another 'term' and had a chance to win with Carthaginians before his son finally ended up the mess with Hannibal. Oh, history, oh, our magistra vitae
