I was watching a DVD copy of "Bill Cosby: Himself," which was his 1982 stand-up comedy performance. As a parent himself, he does not hesitate to make fun of how hard it is to be a parent. There is stuff that includes the difficulties of pregnancy, how children have "brain damage," and a funny story about an out-of-control 4-year-old named Jeffrey on a commercial flight. If you haven't seen this concert film, I recommend it. It's very funny.

i've seen it myself and your right it is downright hysterical. i also really love when he does the trip to the densist skit. everytime i go to the dentist i think of that skit. it's so true.
i agree also that cosby doesn't sugar coat the reality of parenthood. today i ran into a friend of mine from high school at the grocery store. she has 4 kids and her youngest one who is 6 was with her. he was driving her crazy and she made the comment"i don;t want to be a parent today." i can imagine that many parents sometimes do feel this way and although i thought her comment was funny i'm sure that there was some truth to it. again just reinforces my decision not to have kids!

Sorry, stumbled in here. But my hubby and I LOVE this video. It reminds us to stay sane sometimes.

Chocolate cake is wonderful!
But we also appreciate the nightly beatings story...where the mother announces "the beatings will now begin" because the kids have screwed around with getting their baths and getting ready for bed, etc. Because this is a somewhat nightly routine with us and our 2 yr old right now. Just keeping him in bed!

The whole tape is hilarious. When did we grow out of the "brain damage"?

I also like Mrs. Cosby's face changing after the kids arrive, the first baby's poo-poo, and a 15-month-old kid getting a cookie.

I think we grow out of brain damage after adolescence, because many teenagers clearly have brain damage.
