To get a bit of a community feel here, this thread will be for anyone to introduce themselves to the rest of the board. I will start the head rolling!

As the Editor of this section, you can find out more on my bio page, but needless to say I enjoy most horror movies. I began watching oldies on the TV before I was old enough to rent the decent ones, then went on to being a 'gorehound' and watched as many as I could get my hands on and have finally graduated to being a true film fan with a special place in my heart for horror.

If I had to pick a fav, it would be a close call between Evil Dead 2 and Suspiria.

I've always been a horror buff, too. My first memories (of horror) are of spending Friday nights watching TBS (this is before Ted Turner became a household name, and was only known here in Georgia).

We would always order in pizza (only Pizza Hut back then).
1st on was Twilight Zone, then Night Gallery (my personal favorite) then the horror movie of the week. Since this was TV (pre-HBO) it was usually something with Vincent Price, Abbot & Costello, all the classic horror films.

Then I got interestes in Horror lit, per Stephen King & Dean Koontz, and all was lost.

I still prefer the intellectuals to the blood & gores. "Sixth Sense" as opposed to "Friday the 13th"

BTW, what IS Suspiria?

Ah, Suspiria. Well, it is widely regarded as the best work from Italian horror meastro Dario Argento. It follows an American dance student who enrolls in a creepy school, which turns out to be run by aa witches coven.
It's well acted, beautifully filmed with amazing use of colour and has one of the ebst horror soundtracks ever recorded. If you have never seen euro-horror this is great starting point and may make you want to watch more of his work.
You may know Dario Argento's daughter Asia who recently starred in xXx with Vin Diesel.

My fascination with horror started when I was young after I picked up a beaten library copy of a ghost story collection. I decided that I enjoyed being terrified. I have sooo many scary movies that I love, it is difficult to pinpoint a "favorite." For me, the recent "Requiem for a Dream" is startling, distubing, intense, and horrifying. I've always had a soft spot for Robert Englund's potrayal of Freddy in the Nightmare series (Yes, i realize the character became campy as the series went on, although "New Nightmare" was redeeming). I am an avid fan of Hooper's "Poltergeist," as well.

Aren't you glad "Suspiria" made it on Bravo's Top 100 Scary Moments of TV List?

I'm Sharon. As a kid I grew up watching the Universal horror movies on our local late night "shock theater". We were left alone on the weekends at my Grandfather's house so we'd cook up hotdogs and popcorn, and make our own theater tickets. We'd set up chairs in front of the old b/w Zenith and pretend we were at the movies. It was great! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That's probably where I started. I'll watch Twilight Zone if I catch it on SciFi Channel (and endure my kids asking why I'm watching a show with no color). I loved Night Gallery. I've seen a great deal of 70/80s cheesy slasher movies, a lot of the really bad ones.

For the longest time my favorite movie was The Shining (the old one). I also like Candyman and Evil Dead. I'm sure there's lots more that I can't think of right now.

I'm a big fan of psychological thrillers (although I have a nasty habit of predicting the ending and spoiling it for myself.... M. Night Shyamalan hasn't fooled me yet!)

I also adore campy B movies from the 80's, I really can't get enough of them. The man of the house doesn't care for them much, but my girlfriends do, so sometimes we'll still have slumber parties (who says you can't have them after you're 16?) at our single friend's house and scare ourselves silly. I don't know what we'll do when she gets married or otherwise attached.

Now I'm scared.

Ooo, can't wait for M. Night's next one to come out - saw the previews at the "Harry Potter" movie. Something about mer-people I think...can't remember the name, but it looked interesting.

His may not be "horror" in the classic sense, but they definitely are "thinking" movies!

I think it was maybe called The Lady in the Water, or something like that? I saw the preview at the HP movie, too. I think his movies are great! I know some people say they're not "horror", but, jeez.... The Sixth Sense was about ghosts, Signs was about aliens, and The Village had a monster element.
