y'all, i was at walmart yesterday and saw some BEEEUTIFUL sweaters there. It was crochet, looked like sportweight yarn, and it was pineapples, you know like the doilies. ofcourse the sweaters were in the Jr. Miss section so no fit for me..then i thought, "phooey! I can make that." here's the design in my head, and i need some input from you folks who are experienced in pinapples. could the pinapple motif be crocheted in a rectangle? what I want to do, is something like the cocoon sweater. make a rectangle of pinapples, then do the collar and sleeves. is it possible to do the pinapples in a rectangle? i'm asking because y'all know i'm not a doily maker and i've never in my crochet career made a pinapple anything. would this design be possible? and if so, got any pointers? i HAVE to have one of these!!!

well, here's an afghan pattern that uses pineapples... http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/crochet/patterns/pdfs/Pretty_Pink_Pineapples.html

I was at WM yesterday too... Saw some sweaters that LOOKED like they were crochet, but after inspecting them for a minute or two, they looked more like they were machine knit in a very very loose stitch. Looked a lot like knitted lace to me. They were all solid colors...saw pink...black...maybe a blue one...

OMG ok Melissa we are now entering the twilight zone. I swear I put on my own cocoon sweater today and I was thinking that I wanted to do one with pineapples !!!!! Now I just have to get the time to do it. I am finishing my Grandpa's afghan and I am soooo ready to do something else.

erin, that looks just like it, 'cept you cant see the pineapples in the back from this picture. yes, there were black, pink and blue ones i think. Ok, i'm gonna try it, wing it from an afghan pattern and see how it comes out. i was thinking peaches and cream cotton, these are cotton like i said looks like sport weight or kitchen cotton weight. we'll see. Eva, you do yours and I'll do mine, and lets share pics when they're done.

ok, here's another thought. Most of us have seen chelle's design, well i was gonna link to her blog, but looks like its down now. anyway, chelle has a sweater she designed that is very much like the cocoon sweater except that the entire thing is round, and on the arm hole round, she chains the required number over, then on the next round crochets into those chains, leaving a "hole" where you can go back and do the sleeves. so i'm thinking something like this pattern below maybe, using chelle's idea of doing it in the round. Check this one out:

does that make any sense at all??? lol

yeah, i know i cant call it an original if i'm basing it off this doily. but wouldnt it be yummy??? I'm on a mission now. Hopefully my "crochet ADD" won't kick in, and i can stay with it till it's finished.

ok, I found Chelle's site. Her blog is off line, but you can still view the pattern I was refering to. If you click on "patterns" for sale, then scroll down to the kids sweater jacket...that's the pattern i was talking about thats in the round. anyways - I think it would look really pretty in pineapples..no?
