Does anyone have or know someone who has toliet trained their cat? My 1yr male (Tigger) does wonderful at home #1 and #2 in the toliet but when we take him to grandma's when we go 4 wheeling for 2days he #2's in the basement. Just wondering how to stop him from doing #2 in the basement do it in the toliet like a good kitty.

it sounds to me like a territorial thing. like grandma's is not his normal territory so he needs to mark it out as his. maybe a litter box in the basement would solve the problem if it is just for a couple of days? you know--just to keep his scent there so he knows it is his?

I agree with RavynG's idea. Your kitty reminds me of Meet The Fockers<img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

How hard was it to train him to go in the toilet?

It took about 6 months. We started when he was 6months old after he got fixed. But it wasn't hard at all. We slowly raised the littler box up level with the toliet then weeined him off liter then put saran wrap over the toliet bowl with just an itty bitty bit of unsented liter and slowly took that away then cut small holes in the wrap til he was going #1 in the toliet. # 2 was a little more time he kept wanting to #2 right beside the toliet I guess the smell was there so we switched him to the other bathroom and he's been doing fine now for about 3-4 months. We used the book "21 days to a liter free house". I got it at a half off book store and it worked. We give him treats after he uses the potty and he goes and looks in the toliet then jumps down and goes on like it's normal! It's pretty cool! I think I will go with the liter box at the grandparents no more then he's there and we sure aren't going to let that stop our traveling! ha ha and I'd rather take him up to the grandparents then leave him all alone I just don't like that and he has a ball up to my parents house. New house new smells new things to do. He comes back home all tuckered out from all the fun he's had! thanks for the advice!!

Our cat is 11 and I think maybe too old to start something like that now. One of these days we will have a new kitty and I will have to look into this! Thanks!

Awww...the vet was giving away kittens the other day when I was there with my sick dog. I would love to have another kitty, but our cat Tabitha has never got along well with other cats.
