I know what I'm up against, so I'm coming in with printouts and a demonstration of what I know about the procedure, its pros and cons.

I'm reading some information on major sites about vasectomies, and I just hate the fact that you have to be older AND have a partner at the time you want to get one. Then again, if one doctor won't do it, there's always another.

My mom tells me that when my dad had a vasectomy, they STILL asked him if he was sure. "I have five daughters, I think I'm sure," he said.

Of course, that was at least 20 years ago too, so....

Maybe I can simply say that I'm sure because I don't like kids and never had. A statement like that might convince the doc since it would be stupid to make someone like that have a kid.

Hi Guy,

I have had a recent frustration regarding permanent birth control too. I went to my gynecologist for my yearly exam the other day, intending to speak to him about wanting a tubal ligation. I recently found out that I have a septated (divided) uterus, and I decided to use that info as a springboard to getting things permanently tied up, because I have no interest in having kids. (I'm a married 36 y.o. female). When I brought it up, he immediately changed the subject, and started telling me names of surgeons I could go to in order to try to have my uterus fixed! No matter what I said, he went on with his instructions! After he was done, he shook my hand and said, "Everything was fine with your exam today. I don't need to see you back for another year, unless you get pregnant before that!"

WTF???

I have been seeing him for 20 years. How did I miss that he was a baby-popping bully??

That prompted me to come home and immediately do some online research at the best women's hospital in my area. I found a doctor there that is the director of family planning and research, and who performs all forms of permanent birth control, and is a big supporter of it for those that want it. My next move is to schedule a consultation.

I'm sorry to run on about myself, but I do have a point to make. LOL You need to be your own advocate and do research until you find the right doctor. They are out there. If you are sure that time and circumstances will not change your mind, then I say go full speed ahead and make your life and your body the way you want it to be.

I was so mad after my appointment, and complained to my Mom that it was a waste of time. She pointed out that it wasn't a waste, because I learned that he is no longer the right doctor for me. Smart lady! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Good luck, and keep us posted!

OMG, Eww!!!
Lol, why would anyone want to take pictures of that?
Hopefully my husband will never see that site, then he'd NEVER get one done >.<
I posted a similar subject on roe vs wade and getting my tubes tied.
I was under the impression that vasectomies were easily reversed, unlike tubal ligations.
I'm 23 and decided instead of getting my tubes tied (I'm a lover, not a doctor fighter. . .), I will try to get an IUD which is just as effective.
I don't think it will be nearly as hard for you to get a doctor to give you a vasectomy as it is for women to get their tubes tied, it's quite sad really.

I'm in a similar situation, I'm just 22, almost 23, but I know for a fact I never want kids. I appreciate that many people are too stupid at my age to think of much except beer, partying, etc., but I am a philosophy graduate at Oregon State University and I've done LOTS of thinking about everything under the sun, or out of it, hehe.

I see no advantages to kids whatsoever, in fact I adamantly oppose the idea and think it's the most terrible waste of time imaginable. My parents got lucky they got one kid like me (motivated, ambitious, intelligent, etc.), but even though I turned out well, I was a pain in the butt little brat when I was a kid, and every baby craps its pants and cries its head off, no matter how well it turns out. No thanks. I have far too ambitious of career goals for that [censored].

I am scared as hell of some chick trying to "Oops" me, especially because I come from a very wealthy family and that becomes a *real* possibility when a girl sees what I have. I don't mention my wealth to girls of course when I first meet them, or any time right away, but eventually they are going to notice one way or another, why I have so many things, why I can afford them, what do I do for a job, where have I worked (nowhere, except for myself, haha), etc. My chances of getting oopsed are just too high.

PS: When religion starts to interfere with the development of an advanced society, war needs to be declared. I am a big Nietzsche supporter and I absolutely despise Christianity with every breath in me. One day, that putrid religion will finally be extinguished from this earth, but not soon enough.

No Nose Miners, Thanks.

Jonathan, nice to meet another guy who's relatively young. You're right. I think religion is causing so many problems, not just our reproductive rights.
