As many forum visitors will realise, I separated from my partner of 17 years at the beginning of this year. We spent the last six months of our relationship having lots of soul to soul discussion and it has made the whole process much more positive- we were both determined to avoid hurting each other as much as possible. In fact my ex suggested I write a book on the subject, which is precisely what I'm going to do.

I'd like it to be a really useful and supportive read for all those going through seperation and divorce, who like me want to avoid taking chunks out of each other. Can I invite any forum visitors to post here with true life stories of how you coped with your seperation? It may be that the other party wasn't as amenable as my ex- that's fine- I'm interested in how you coped. I'd like to use as many of these stories as possible and will identify the contributions by first name, initials or forum identity as you prefer.

Please note that posting on this thread will likely get you in print- so if you don't want to wind up in a book you'd better make it clear to me!!

A big thank you to those of you who've contacted me directly on this subject. I realise it is one that is a little 'delicate' to post publicly. Keep the stories coming & if anyone is brave enough to share here please do.

Hi Lauren,

I don't have any experience in this area but the first thing that comes to mind is Debbie Ford's book Spiritual Divorce. I've read other books by Debbie but not this one.

Here's her website:

Thanks Janet that's a great looking site. I'm going to have a really good look at it & maybe purchase the book- I haven't seen any materials in this area at all.

Hi Lauren,

As you know, I have a story or two to tell and have told them to you in person already. You have permission to use any of them and I wish you every success with the book

Love your new avatar by the way - very striking! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Sara. As you know you can't control another person, only your reaction. Maybe a bit for the book on rising above the provocation would be in order?
