Reading the thread of Favourite Pieces, elegantly posted by Ron, inspired me to think of this. Is there one piece of classical music that you just can't live without? No cheating here! Just ONE piece!! It doesn't have to be a piece you can play, or even a piece you want to hear every day. But is there ONE piece that stands above all others for you? The proverbial Desert Island Discs piece! Let's see if we can compile a BellaOnline top twenty classical music pieces list. ( I feel a hit CD coming on!) For me it has to be Mahler's Fifth Symphony.

Faure's Pavane. I adore this piece.

Nessun Dorma (Puccini) is the ultimate for me and it doesn't matter who sings it!

Ack! Can't choose, can't choose!
How in the world do I compare? (operas, symphonys, ballets - well I guess that would still be orchestra, solo pieces...)
Ok, need more time on this one.

I know. I was torn between Faure and the pieces we chose for our wedding which have special memories attached to them now. I went with Faure because I've loved it for so long.

OK, I've decided. If it came down to not ever being able to hear music again, except for 1 piece (this was the only way I could narrow it down), then it would have to be "Hallelujah" (unless I get to choose the entire Messiah)!
I realize it might sound passe', but I honestly can't conceive of life without this piece! I love to hear it and I love to sing it (so far I've tried my hand at 3 different parts. LOL) I have no preconceived notions that I will ever be able to play it however. (A little out of my league.)

Ahh man...I have several but if I were to narrow it down to one, or maybe two I'd have to say:
Verdi's 'La Traviata' - Sempre Libra with Maria Callas of course
OR
Ahhh, can't decide....but ANY of Chopin's Nocturnes...they are like cool water on a hot day for me.
