I am new to the Betta world, George is my second betta. I lost Fred recently. I have to say that I have never heard of ghost shrimp - what are they? Are they entertainment for our little guys?

Entertainment/snacks. They're amusing little guys. I've had a couple of them in my 10 gallon community. They did a pretty good job with the algae, then one day *poof!* they were gone..... I figure one the fish ate them.

....or maybe that's the "ghost" part....

My boyfriend and I would play a ghost shrimp version of "where's Waldo?". He was always good at finding all 3 of 'em.

I decided to try a few ghost shrimp in with my Betta. He found them to be an entertaining snack.

He chased them for a while and when I felt confident that was all he was planning to do, he ate them when I was not looking. Maybe I should have taught him not to play with his food, grrr.

I personally love ghost shrimp for their own sakes. I am from Louisiana and I suppose they give a tank a touch of home for me.

My Betta must be abnormal. I had to get rid of the ghost shrimp I had because the seemed to be stressing him out. He never went after them except in a feeding frenzy and just stayed at the top of the tank while they were at the bottom.

That's funny, Pat. Some bettas really do NOT like company.

Rogue, I like those shrimpies too. I have a few little betta mini-hexes sitting around (I use them for betta transport and hospitals), and every now and then I will set up a mini-tank for ghost shrimp in there. They are cute and inexpensive and are fun to watch for their own selves, like you said.
