Michelle - thanks for visiting! Do you visit us usually as a musicmom? Congratulation for becoming the Bella host! Or maybe you are a host for a long time already and I did not know so.

Yes, our forum is very friendly. Raytan is also a very friendly person, he just likes to stir up discussions sometimes

In my opinion: (Lower 48)

Eastern most town is Lubec, Maine
Western most town is Ozette, Washington
Southern most town is Key West, Florida
Northern most town is Angle Township, Minnesota

That is all I see for the end of America for now and in the future.

OK John,

I'll bite at those "ends of America" and expand it to include the 49th state, Alaska:

Eastern most town is Attu, Alaska
Western most continental town is Wales, Alaska
Western most island town is Adak, Alaska
Southern most island town is Key West, Florida
Northern most town Barrow, Alaska

I have seen the end of America, gazing across the Bering straits to Russian Siberia.

Kai
Northern most town is Angle Township, Minnesota

Kai, I know that it is Polish Culture forum, but I love the taste of Alaska you bring here through your Slavic-American eyes If you don't find it too much time-consuming, would you from time to time write something about the place you now live in, just little scraps of ordinary life (i.e.---> Nikifor at Bear Tooth Cinema, remember?). I'd love it , and I'm sure that not just I.

Kai,

A_Dam is correct. Alaska, the last great frontier. Known throughout the world for its wilderness beauty. Is it true that the permafrost is fast disappearing? That must creat all types of problem for civil engineering.

Are those at the following link the predecessors of the neo-cons? A debate between Herbert Marcuse & them would have been great. (LOL) Carl:

Michelle,

thank you so much for telling me that. I just read the information about you and your family:

you are a great person! I wish I could sit with a cup of coffee and chat with you for a while

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Obviously I do enjoy talking about Alaska and all of its superlatives, but I do respect the Polish / East European Forum and usually keep my discussions to those themes. In this case it was too much to resist when I saw Bob's comments about "End of America".

I have been there - Barrow, Shemya, Attu, but not yet to Adak. In fact this last week was a busy one with flights to the Seward Peninsula near Nome to inspect an old gravel airport - in fact, one serving the area Joe was talking about investing in! Granite Mountain is surrounded by mining claims. Then my boss pulled a fast one and sent me off the very next day north to the arctic coast to join a safety inspection team.

I am a tourist at heart and enjoyed the beauty of the areas. Too bad we didn't get to Granite Mountain two weeks earlier, the fall colors would have been spectacular.

Oh, warming of the permafrost is a problem and the engineering community is well aware of it. We had a one day symposium on the warming of Alaska on the very day headlines told of one of Bush's staffers cooking a report on global warming. The first two speakers were careful to specify they were speaking only of Alaska, not global warming. The Arctic is warming and warm permafrost carries some big problems...

Hi Carl,

Just to not disappoint you... I was curious & probably wanting to believe, so I read the whole article & found the language not what I would expect from a professional writer covering this topic and some of the quotations from the Boston Brahmans did not ring true.

No surprises, as usual I have to write this one of as a fabrication. I would like to see the history of how the neo-cons worked up their successful strategy. Neo-cons as in 'new confidence men', an Americanism for 'swindlers'.

Kai
