Glade has a new commercial with the show "crochet for today" where the little lady is crocheting an air freshner cover. So funny but what is really great is that it is actually crochet and not knit so that got it right three cheers for Glade.!!!

yes, and while I'm happy that they're actually using the correct technique in their commercial, I'm really annoyed at how they're portraying crocheters.

I also feel that the lady is not very flatering to the art of Crochet nor proud of her Creations !!!

I don't think covers were made to hide the containers, but are used a foundations.
Some very cute Dolls were made as covers on the cone shaped room freshners.

That's just how I see it. {:^+)

i agree with mother hen., but its like this, some people will always think they are better than you, i found one just the other day at joanns. i was buying some yarn to crochet yet another poncho(yeegads i need to make something else for a change lol) and i saw this lady looking at yarns and being the nosy person i was i politely asked her what she was making. she said oh her friends daughter was going to crochet her one of those funfur scarves. i said oh cool, and then said friend said to me, no she is not "crocheting it' and this was said in the tone of a dirty word . i was kind of taken aback(i know me, merwyn shocked lol) and then asked her how she was going to make it, she says to me and i quote"she would never stoop so low as to crochet, we all know it is for little old ladies who have nothing better to do and are to lazy to learn to knit" knitting is so much better says the shrew, i looked her square in the eye and said to her. well i don't know about you and your daughter, but i feel that it is a art as well as a craft and that it is just as good or even better than knitting. and she says oh thats because you don't know how to knit. to which i replied. oh but i do and not only can i knit. i also teach crochet and some knitting. she shut up then lol oh man that made me so mad i wanted to spit nails at her. but since it was where i worked figured i better keep my mouth shut before she stabbed me with her knitting needles lol' can you believe the nerve of some of these people. course she also stuck her nose up in the air at most of the yarns there. only the ones that were ultra expensive was the ones she was buying. afterwards i told my boss and pointed this lady out to her, she said she does this all the time, she even signs up for classes, gets the discount(you get a 10% discount on your supplies) then gets her money refunded for the class. go figure lol

omg crochet is supposed to be an art to relax you and bring people together, not tear them apart and cause stress. I had no idea that there was such resentment betweent knitting and crocheting and there could be classes about buying expensive yarn and whatnot. If you ask me, that woman is a disgrace to whatever craft she does because she obviously doesn't appreciate it for what it is.

And I have to say, being a 19 year old who's crocheted since I was 6, that Glade commercial was EXTREMELY offensive. i almost wrote a letter but then thought that it would just go unread.

its kinda funny the way knitters are "stuck-up" against crocheters, but crocheters, in my experience, respect the knitters. as for the commercial, i thought it was cute because the "little old lady" stigma is not just for crochet. lots of people think the same thing about knitting. and you gotta admit, there were "cozies" for practically everything in the house back in the '70's. however, i think it also showed a lack of knowledge about crochet. there are lots of people who are under the false asumption that the only thing you make make with crochet is doilies, cozies, and granny squares. everytime i hear some knitter knocking crochet, I'd like to whip out a picture of that cathedral window afghan and shove it in there face and say "guess what???? its CROCHET!!" lolol <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

ps.
and poo-poo on the yarn snobs too. i have found that yarn snobs are "snobs" in other areas of life too. pass me the Red Heart, please....
cheap yarn feeds my addiction. the good stuff is saved for special projects. if i only used the "good stuff", i'd be making only a few projects a year. can you imagine the withdrawals?????

Funny thing...this commercial actually made me, a 33 (almost) year old woman with no kids and a wedding on the way, WANT to learn how to crochet. After seeing that commercial I bugged my fiance for a week to drive me up to the nearest Michael's (i don't drive ... long story) before he finally relented. Of course it does also bring back fond memories of my grandmother who crocheted all her grandkids afghans of our color of choice ... but when i talked to the lady who worked there who was by the yarn selection she told me alot of younger people are taking it up. And it is alot harder than it seems...I'm just glad I was able to pick it up so quickly. When i first tried to learn years ago from my Mama I couldn't get it to save my life lol
