I read a good deal of fantasy, and some SF. Plus I also like historical mysteries, which can be hard to find. What about everyone else?

Reading jezebel here. As a teenager, I read so many fantasy books that my parents worried that I was loosing touch with reality. To silence their fears, I embarked on books outside of the fantasy and sci-fi fields. I�m a sucker for classic works, mystery, fiction, historic, etc. Long live the written word and may we strive to never take it for granted.

Side note: Laura, what historical mysteries books have you read?

Ack! I couldn't pick just one!
I love reading! I used to think I didn't like SF, but when my husband and I got married and we combined our two libraries (which quite impressively covers a whole wall of our downstairs!) I started reading some of his, and got hooked.
Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series
Jordan's Wheel of Time series
McCaffrey's Pern Series (BTW is that SF or fantasy, since it technically occurs in the future on another planet, but has dragons and a medieval hierarchy?)
Lackey's Valdemar Series
Bothe series by Laurell k.Hamilton
Anything by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, Michael Palmer, Ann Rice
Plus I love going back and re-reading all the ones I was assigned in HS that I thought were a waste of time then, because now I can appreciate them! LOL

I've read alot by PC Doherty, but I can't find any other authors (our local library is really small)



I've seen it called both. Then some people just call it science fantasy.


I also like a lot of classics, especially the more gothic ones. My mom used to worry because I read so much Poe <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> And I used to read a lot of horror. Clive Barker is one of my favorites.

I've got a lot of Clive Barker, too. But i have to be in a mood to read him. He just kinda wanders Waaaaaaay off the beaten path <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Another author I really like (although he may be more horror than SF) is Brian Lumley. He writes the necroscope series, but then he wrote the "House of Doors" and its sequel (can't remember the name) they were more SF and really neat!

I like Lumley too. I think I've read all of the Necroscope books and the first of his I ever read was House of Doors. That reminds me...somewhere I have a book by him that I bought and never got to read. I'll have to dig it out of my pile, but I kind of thought I got it because it looked like SF and I was curious.

edited to add: The one I bought is Maze of Worlds, the follow up to House of Doors. Although in reading the flap, the book DOES have aliens <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm thoroughly enjoying Greg Egan's books at the moment - especially Schild's Ladder and Terranesia. Quite hard-core science fiction and really clever. I also love Asimov, and I'm trying to collect all the Foundation books.

I also really enjoyed David Eddings' Belgariad series, but I found his more recent works disappointing.

I devour books.
