Since anyone can start a guild, should we start our own crochet guild ? If Yes, what would you expect to gain from it ?

Start our own Guild ?

My husband and I had thought about starting a pottery guild at one time so he did a lot of research about it. I definately think our guild would be more geniune and less la-te-dah than some I have read about. I think an incentive would be to make it web based of course and each member could have a page or two to display or sell their things or you could list members links if they had a web site of their own. It would be nice if things got rolling and we could publish our own magazine and get a discount off the subscription because we were a member. Am I a big dreamer or what? I haven't researched other guilds so I don't know what they offer other than you get to put their little logo on your web page if you belong.

What I was thinking about doing is having it online and maybe membership dues (very minimal just enough to pay for the web space) and we could have various online classes, patterns etc. And of course lots of fun.

Ok we seem to be in agreement but I need more input on how you would want it to be run, should we just start out with free web space, paid web space ???? What would you like to see it do for you ??? I could close the current Yahoo group and open another and name it something.....see I need that info also, what should we call it??

I think it's a great idea. It would involve some work for all of us , especially if we were to be juried, a certain amount of patience until everyone being judged by their peers would take a little time to do. Web pages would be good, probably start with the freebees until we get rolling. We would have to organize, and have a set of rules and standards, also some sort of mission statement so it would be reconized, by other guilds. You asked what we expect to gain, I would only expect to be respected by my peers for the type of work we each do. And get feedback on our work from each other, encouragement is another thing this group does very well.
