My fastest recorded speed at present is 101 double-crochet stitches in 3 minutes time. The Craft Yarn Council of America (or CYCA, www.CYCA.com) and the British Handknitting Confederation (I believe www.ukhandknitting.com) have recognized this as the reigning record. These two organizations have organized the modern-day standard to which speed is measured, both in handknitting as well as in crochet.
My title of Fastest Crocheter in the World has been recognized by some of the leading news organizations in the United States: CNN, MSNBC, Good Morning America, The CBS Early Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, etc.

My title also has been recognized by the leading knitting and crochet organizations in the U.S., such as the New York City Crochet Guild and The Crochet Guild of America (cgoa.org).

The way CYCA & BHKG competition have standardized the competition of fastest crocheter in the world so that there is a standardized yarn size (worsted weight) and specified hook size (5 mm) as well as a precise number of very specific type of stitches (20 double-crochets plus a turning chain per row).

The competition and standard are documented by an official stitch counter who counts up the numbers in the designated 3-minute time frame. Witnesses then sign a piece of paper. Furthermore, videotapes with a clock in the background in plain view are available.

To compare this almost-scientific methodology to Guinness is like comparing apples to oranges. What size yarn did the Guinness record holder use? What size hook? I gather there was a 30 minute time lapse, but what exactly is the shell stitch? Look online and in crochet stitch-dictionaries. You will find at least 3 definitions of the "shell stitch," not exactly neither precise nor very specific.

Furthermore, ANYONE can participate in the CYCA time trials, held across the country at regular intervals throughout the year since late 2001.

Regards, Lily Chin - world's fastest crocheter in official, international competition according to CYCA & BHKG standards

*****OH PLEASE, In my honest opinion this is really well [censored] !!!!! Lily is NOT the World's Fastest Crocheter Lisa Gentry is and Lisa is also now "world's fastest crocheter in official, international competition according to CYCA & BHKG standards" This is unbelievable, again my respect for her (Lily) is going even further down the toilet all the way to the septic!!!! See it is so true once you tell a lie you have to tell a bigger one to cover up the one you previously told. Oh by the way, has anyone ever heard off this "scientific methodology" ???? I am off to write a letter to CNN to see if they will recognize me as the Queen of something (yes I am still trying to get out of cooking and cleaning)

Procrastinator

That is the Title that I hold.
Ask my family.
Now I want it in the Book.
But if it doesn't make it there, well that doesn't make any difference , cause I don't have others claiming it !

But since it has been proven over and over again that our Lisa Gentry is the Fastest Crocheter in the World
Then, Lily > Give up the hold you think you have ,to the True Owner of that title !!!!! Thank You (:^)

Sounds like she wants to hold onto that title! LOL

Personally, I like Guinness. For ages they have done official records for just about everything under the sun. In my humble opinion, whoever's name is in their book, that's the official record holder!

almost "scientific methodology"????? does ms. chin think we freakin' stupid??? you're either the fastest, OR YOU ARE NOT! what a lot of BS rhetoric. MS CHIN, GET OVER IT, YOU ARE NOT THE FASTEST CROCHETER!!! Ms. Gentry stomped your beeeehind, and you can't take it. I have no respect for Ms. Chin, or the CGOA, and I will not buy anymore of her patterns, nor will I buy mags or books with her patterns that tout her as the fastest. HAHA I love that part about how the media has recognized her as the fastest. Honey, WHEN does the media give the whole truth about ANYTHING??? They'll say what ever they're paid to say. Ms. Chin, you are a fraud.

What a terrible attitude. Talk about a sore loser. She was beat fair and square. Besides, wasn't it her and her people who wanted to challenge Lisa in the first place. Now that she has lost on camera she needs to make up all of this [censored] about it not being a "standardized" or "scientific methodology" competition. Hey Lily, you brought this competition to Lisa, not the other way around. She participated fairly, she did not complain about the rules. What a sore loser, when one makes up the competition, loses, and then can not do so graciously and has to make up so much BS.

YOU GO LISA!!! WE LOVE YOU AND STAND BEHIND YOUR TALENT!!!

Now, shall we start notifying these leading news organizations of the United States that there is a new "World's Fastest Crocheter"????

Let's get the story straight for once.

I am doing some more investigating into this matter and I just got off of the phone with someone at offinger management (cgoa managers). She will be emailing me some explanations and maybe we can get some answers and put this all to rest.

What is Lily talking about on her Biographie "World Championship Fastest Crocheter", if competitions going on in 2 countries? Does World means England and America only, what's about Germany where I'm from and all the others countries? :O). Sure Letterman, CNN and all the TV channels had to recognized Lily - they didn't know that she got rejected from the Guinness World Records!! Eva, I didn't know it was twice! When Lily's title was pending in the World Guinness Records she has all the TV shows going on, that was happing!

I wonder how long it would take her to crochet a hat for that swelled head of hers...I was never impressed...and I was less impressed watching her on Martha yesterday...sure she can crochet fast, but what about the quality of her "fast hands"...taking your time and doing it well is what counts in my book...and Lisa...I'm pretty new to the forum, but I hope that you get this whole mess straightened out with the help of all of us...Ms. Chin needs to step down and take a reality check of herself...Good luck!
