My fastest recorded speed at present is 101 double-crochet stitches in 3 minutes time. The Craft Yarn Council of America (or CYCA,
www.CYCA.com) and the British Handknitting Confederation (I believe
www.ukhandknitting.com) have recognized this as the reigning record. These two organizations have organized the modern-day standard to which speed is measured, both in handknitting as well as in crochet.
My title of Fastest Crocheter in the World has been recognized by some of the leading news organizations in the United States: CNN, MSNBC, Good Morning America, The CBS Early Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, etc.
My title also has been recognized by the leading knitting and crochet organizations in the U.S., such as the New York City Crochet Guild and The Crochet Guild of America (cgoa.org).
The way CYCA & BHKG competition have standardized the competition of fastest crocheter in the world so that there is a standardized yarn size (worsted weight) and specified hook size (5 mm) as well as a precise number of very specific type of stitches (20 double-crochets plus a turning chain per row).
The competition and standard are documented by an official stitch counter who counts up the numbers in the designated 3-minute time frame. Witnesses then sign a piece of paper. Furthermore, videotapes with a clock in the background in plain view are available.
To compare this almost-scientific methodology to Guinness is like comparing apples to oranges. What size yarn did the Guinness record holder use? What size hook? I gather there was a 30 minute time lapse, but what exactly is the shell stitch? Look online and in crochet stitch-dictionaries. You will find at least 3 definitions of the "shell stitch," not exactly neither precise nor very specific.
Furthermore, ANYONE can participate in the CYCA time trials, held across the country at regular intervals throughout the year since late 2001.
Regards, Lily Chin - world's fastest crocheter in official, international competition according to CYCA & BHKG standards
*****OH PLEASE, In my honest opinion this is really well [censored] !!!!! Lily is NOT the World's Fastest Crocheter Lisa Gentry is and Lisa is also now "world's fastest crocheter in official, international competition according to CYCA & BHKG standards" This is unbelievable, again my respect for her (Lily) is going even further down the toilet all the way to the septic!!!! See it is so true once you tell a lie you have to tell a bigger one to cover up the one you previously told. Oh by the way, has anyone ever heard off this "scientific methodology" ???? I am off to write a letter to CNN to see if they will recognize me as the Queen of something (yes I am still trying to get out of cooking and cleaning)
