Hello - well I fell off the wagon for the past two weeks and put on 6 pounds. I was on the low-carb diet for nearly three months. I figured I would go back to my Weight Watchers plan - but I found myself starving and eventually eating everything in sight. So, I am back to day one on my low-carb diet. OK my question is this - can I just skip the two week induction and eat 20 to 30 carbs a day which would include my low-carb shakes, low-carb yoguart - as long as I stay within 20 to 30 carbs I should lose weight, right? I just cannot think about going through 2 weeks without something sweet again - it was an awful experience the first time around - I guess what I am wondering is can I just start off in Phase 2 instead of going through induction again? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't find my Atkins book this time, (loaned out probably) and I wasn't feeling up to online research, so I just did it on my own--first three days, I wasn't "ready" so when I went to business lunches, I ate a bite or two of dessert--even a wheat roll one day! I went out with friends for Mexican and even ate about 4 tortilla chips! (Usually, I'm a "more chips please" kind of gal, so I felt downright virtuous with 4!)

I can't be all anal about it or I'll lose my obsessive mind! I did get better and felt so much better without starches & sweets that it became almost a no-brainer. Nobody looks at me funny when I skip the cheesecake at luncheons or dig the chicken out of the pasta!

Don't tell, but I don't count carbs! I eat salad & non-starchy veggies, meat, cheese, eggs & fat--mayo, butter, dressing, bacon. Drink water and Coke Zero and iced tea with Splenda. Oh, and Breyer's Carb Control Chocolate ice cream (about 3/4 cup about twice a week).

I am not at all disregarding Dr. A or any other expert! I'm just synthesizing the info and doing what I can do. The way I eat now is so much better than before and while "your mileage may vary" I say anything's better than nothing and yes, you should lose weight by cutting carbs without actual induction. I'm pretty sure you'll feel better, so add a little extra exercise and you may lose just as quickly!

Good Luck!

Well, I can put it this way. If you simply won't do 2 weeks of induction, then at least doing the 20g-30g is better than eating bad food. So on the large scale of ways to eat, it is much better to go the 20-30g route than to eat poorly.

That being said, if you are THAT addicted to sweet stuff that you can't go 2 weeks without it, that is really a bad sign. The whole point of induction is to break your sugar craving, because it causes such huge problems for people. I'm not just talking weight loss, I'm talking your blood sugar spikes, your teeth rotting, etc. It is really in your best interest not to be craving sugars. Sugars are not good for you.

So yes, go with eating 20g or 30g a day, drink a ton of water, eat a lot of healthy veggies. But really and truly, think about one sweet thing you crave each day and substitute something less sweet. Your tongue is a creature of habit. It wants what it is used to. But if you always drank sugary soda before and you start drinking iced tea instead, your tongue will get used to it. It is up to you to work on that task!

well take it from me , I have fallen off the wagon quite a number of times but always managed to get back on track

you can't expect your low carb journey to be smooth sailing all the time , just make sure that your idea of falling off the wagon is not pigging out on junk food every single day

if you do it once a month or once every 2 weeks on a meal , it's ok but don't be too upset to the extent that you eat even more junk the following day!
