Here's the article link:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050826/ap_on_he_me/autistic_boy_s_death

At the end of the article was a link to discuss. I clicked on it thinking it would be somthing like on here. Stupid me.

Although there were some parents on there that TRIED to discuss, there were ignorant fools and racists, and people I don't even have words for. Here's some comments;

"look at his name...some kind
of foreign trash.....good riddance"

"kid dead = problem solved"

"GOOD! those FREAKS should die autistics should be euthanized as soon as they are diagnosed"

"GOD HATES 'TARDS That's why he kills them young."

"BEST THING ABOUT BANGING AUTISTIC **** most of the time they keep f___ing quite, they don't even start crying or anything, even if you are raping them...kinda nice"

(I deleted their names, and I changed the curse words so they woudn't get deleted, but you get the picture.) The more I read, the more I cried. If I could figure out a way to find out who that last one was (probably some punk 16 yr old who never even leaves his house)I'd probably drag him to the police myself. I'd actually probably do much worse, since I was a victim of date rape in college. Its gonna be hard to think "Christ-like" on this one.

This is Michael, my son w/ Asperger's who just moved out to Mississippi w/ his dad, because he wanted to spend some time w/ him (male bonding I guess). But he's been calling and telling me that some boys have started rumors about him that he's gay. He has no idea what to do, he's not gay, but he is different. He has "ticks", he has a VERY high intelligence, he sounds more like a teacher when he talks because he has very stilted speech. He likes girls, but like most boys, freezes up around them, and then has the extra pressure of not being good in social situations to begin with. I want to cry for him, because now he's all alone out there, and i can't help him; and its because of IDIOTS like those above. I realize these are just kids doing this to him in school, but where do you think they learned it from?

Sometimes I wonder why God, knowing what we would be capapble of, would even want to create us in the first place.

Hey Michelle nice photo of Michael. I am worried because of the ticks Nicholas has that he too would be perceived as gay - which is why I have already decided on sending him to the Los Angeles Zoo magnet - they have school right there for high school which would help him learn the field he wants to work in.

Now I am looking into the middle school issue and was thinking maybe a private one for higher functioning, which is where The Help Group comes in. They have campuses here in Southern California and ideally I would like to have both my kids at their campuses - but I have yet to visit them and take the tour.

What grade is Michael in now? How were the middle school years and was there a transition issue from elementary to middle school?

Thanks for sharing the photo and with all yahoo stories whenever I have clicked on to discuss there the stories they always have some wackos not making much sense, so yes since it is summer still and many not back in school I am assuming those posts you mentioned were from bored teens. I am at library and no time to check out the link and board at this time.

Hi,
I haven't had a chance to read these posting myself, but from what you say, they definitely sound horrible, and I'm not surprised that you're sickened. We live in a world that is incredibly intolerant of anyone who is even the slightest bit outside of what society considers "the norm." I'm sorry to say that it's very possible that these aren't bored teens. I've seen adults be very rude to my son, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone other than teens was capable of such hatred. It sickens me too.

When I "philosophize" about Autism. I always turn to a comment that said that God needs people to guard and protect the innocent, and who is more innocent than someone who can't take care of themselves?

I'm sorry that your son is now dealing with the 'gay' comments. I know it must bother him. Keep in mind that, according to our society, being 'gay' is even more outside of the norm than being Autistic. It isn't so.

All I can say, sincerely, is that I will pray tonight for your son's comfort, for your peace of mind, and even for those people who can't see that every single Autistic child is the image of God on earth.

Hang in there...and don't let the hatred grind you down.

You know, the people who say such things are actually the ones to pity! We unfortunately live in a world that is still so ignorant to so much. The kinds of people who write such things I think are the ones Who are lacking in empathy, sympathy etc.... such a sad way to live don't you think?

We who were chosen to have been given the gift of an Autistic child were given a profound gift, the ability to catch a glimse into a different reality, a different world that so many of us should downright envy! The Autistic mind does not see "society's expectation of normal" They see the truth plain and simple!!! They live in a reality where looks, money, social staus and all other [censored] doesnt matter,It's PURITY that is within them!

The only reason they feel different is because society tells and treats them different. Stop and think for one moment, Aside from what society thinks.... Do these astonishing individuals care about status??? NO. They are the ones we need to be more like. My daughter only cares about whether your a good person or not, thats it!!! She sees the beauty in things we were brainwashed to not to.

Well thats my opinion at least

Oh, you are so right! I lose sight of that too easliy.

I actually mourned the day that I knew Michael was becoming more "normal" because he lied to me for the first time (he was 12). He had never had the (I can't think of the word) but the "maturity" or the "trickiness" to lie before - it had just never occured to him. When he and his little sister fought, if I asked who started it, I could always trust Michael's answer. Now he's like other kids in the apsect, he's learned how to be manipulative, maybe not as well, btu he sees how it benefits the rest of the world and he tries it. "guile" I think is the word I was looking for.

Imagine where our world would be w/out Einstein, Mozart, or Michaelangelo. A lot of psychologists believe they suffered from Asperger's of high functioning autism. Autistics look around the corners. While everyone else thought the world was flat, Columbus thought it was round. W/out him, where would we be?

And people refer to our children as "retards".

Well, one good thing at least.
I contacted Yahoo, trying to get them to delete this board, and if not the enitre thing, then at least this posting...

Quote:

At first they wrote me back saying I was free to ignore this user, and this was how I could set my viewer up to skip anything from him, blah, blah, blah.

I wrote them back and said, "Do you really want a user on YOUR site promoting RAPE? I suggest you actually READ this post instead of just logging it in your complaint file."

Apparently that got through to them because they wrote me back saying they had taken "appropriate action" and when I checked, message # 596 is no longer there. HAH!

Wow that is good news to know you succeeded in getting that message deleted. Did you read over 500 messages on that board?

No, on yahoo they post last posts first, then you have to go back and look for the original. I saw a Re: to that post and couldn't believe someone had the audacity to write something like that, but they did.

When I checked to see that this one had been deleted, they had almost 1700 posts on this article.
