No, I would not check each of the 58 or so possibilities - that would be nearly impossible in terms of time trying to check Polish archives or church registers. What is needed is another clue from Dee's family. Hopefully she will find another document, perhaps naturalization records or early church records, that record the name of the original village.
I have heard of people spending 15-20 years trying to figure out where their ancestors came from, sometimes there do not seem to be any clues at all. And until recently (internet, more people in Poland willing and able to help, etc.) if someone did find the name of the village - then what? For non-Polish-speaking researchers, the language is a huge barrier. But, times are changing! And now many families have been reunited after 100 or more years of going their separate ways.
