My cat Q-Tips and I just moved from michigan to brooklyn about 7 months ago from a one level 2 bedroom apt to a 1 bedroom on the 4th floor. Madd small but getting around, anyway summer came around and (fells like hell broke through earths dirt and made itself at home now I know what heatwave means) the cat lives in the livingroom heatwave. We have AC in the bedroom and try to be nice letting her in once in a while but she always cry wanting to get out to sleep in the heat. But the worse part is of course at night. I get up atleast 3 to 5 times a night letting her in and out. There has been nights she wont bother but other nights she gives me that cry like "momma please make it better" cries. I try to ignore it turn on the radio blast the AC. I'm just wondering why is she in living in the heat in the livingroom all day then at night she wants to run in and out of the A/Ced bedroom? I tried the water gun, breaking her sleep durning the day (she just got paranoid when she hear foot steps). I never know what she wants...what does she want from me...BLOOD?

Why not leave the door open just a enough so she can come & go between the 2 rooms on her own?

I agree with Mavis. If you're worried about the cool air getting out maybe hang a sheet from the door frame to cover the upper part and side of the opening leaving a hole at the bottom for her to get in.

I guess it would look kind of funny to put a pet door on you BR door, but its always a possibility!

Did you ever see the "cat house" that Christopher Lowell featured on his show on (either Discovery or HGTV)? These people loved their cat so much they basically had a run that went all over the house with little hole cut at the TOP of each of the corners entering into a room and the beams ran right in so the cats had access in and out of whatever rooms they wanted. The only thing the owners said was they had to nail or glue down all of their breakable items, because the cats had a tendency to knock them off! That was wild!

My cat Chardonnay insisted on staying in our garage during the heat wave this summer. Air-conditioning in the living room and kitchen. Kept bringing her in but she kept scratching to go back in the heat. I too was confused.
As for her wanting to go in and out of the bedroom, have you considered the possibility that she just wanted to see you? Char cries that" Mommy I want something cry" when she is in the kitchen and I am in the living room. It doesn't stop till I actually get up walk in the kitchen look at her and say "what"? Then she is ok. Even though cats are very independent animals, sometimes when you create a close bond with them, they just have to have some contact with you when left alone. My other cat, who passed away had to be with me at all times. No matter what room I was in he was there. Go figure.

Since the Brooklyn Hell of heat has passed she stop! But when it was really hot and I would let her lay with me she want to lay under the covers when she is in the A/C other times she would look at the A/C and act like a dog in a car and stand right in fornt of it. I dont know girls its a kitty cat world and we think we rule it but I guess not I just cant wait when fall come around. Thanks Ladies

My cats do the same thing. So they don't shut themselves in the bedroom when I'm not at home (as they've done before) I put a sneaker in the doorway to stop to door from closing and another on the other side to stop it from opening any more. It's a small enough space for them to get through and run rampid til their hearts content...and small enough where the loss of AC is unnoticeable.

Gracious me! Are you trying to tell me you actually went to sleep at night and wasn't awake to attend to her every whim and fancy? You're a bad kitty mother you know! I've 19 of them to attend to day and night (yawn) so think yourself lucky )

Bless them all, every one has their own personality and quirks - we're just not intelligent enough to work it all out. C'est la vie. If you'd like to see my darlings, please visit www.fruitcats.com

Enjoy!

Excuse me...I can't believe how wrong you have all got it.... Try to get it through your simple heads - we belong to the cats, and they let us live at home....!

D'uh!! ...I would have thought it was obvious - !!
