Hello all!
It's been six months or so since I posted. Big employment changes, etc.
Update on my fish:
10 gallon - 3 cories (albino, leopard & peppered - who all get along and don't mind that their not the same type of cory) 2 sunset platies 1 lyretail swordtail 1 zebra danio (he's ended up here after not playing nice with my recovering paradise fish)
Two 2 gallon bowls: 1 red/indigo crowntail "Fang"; 1 turquoise halfmoon "Earl"
One 3 gallon tank: paradise fish, "Gonzo"
Gonzo had been in the 3 gallon with the danio. Gonzo was once in the 10 gallon community tank, but he got too old and started showing aggressive behaviour and ate all the food. So he got his own "house". I moved the danio in there because he schools with Gonzo (his danio buddies died about 6 months ago).
A few weeks ago, I came home to find Gonzo stuck in a fake rock decoration that came with his tank! Poor lil' guy! He jolted out when he saw me, and got a nasty wound on his back, a bruise on his belly, and one of his pectorals was torn. I've been obsessive about his water changes and he hasn't suffered any secondary infections, ick, etc. (whew!). However, yesterday I noticed the danio was swooping in and nipping the wound on his back that's been healing over! He was doing this repeatedly, so I moved him into the 10 gallon where he won't hurt Gonzo in his recovery.
Anybody had this happen before?

Good move there JK....by the way....Hello again !! Yes, other fish will pick at injuries and wounds on other fish if they get the chance. Good idea taking that little begger out of there. I have been up to alot in the past 6 months myself...lol...here's a few pics of what I've been doing... Guppies of all things !! Never thought I'd want guppies, but my daughter picked out these beauties and I just HAD to design a tank around them...lol...I also added a couple of panda cories to this one..they matched the decor...lol And a German Blue Ram tank....I have a batch of baby rams and mom and dad are raising them in this tank... Welcome back JK...I don't get here as often myself, but nice to see a familiar name here from time to time !

EMG, you always have such beautiful fish and set-ups that I can never believe it! I wish I had your time and talent (and money, I suppose too, lol!) Oh, someday I will have a nice big setup with lots of fish and live plants.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Well, I do spend more than I aught I suppose....lol...but I do work and what I earn is pretty much discretionary spending. I sometimes find a tank at the local dump..we have a shack where folks leave "stuff" they don't want anymore but don't want to throw away. My husband just brought home a 10 gallon he found there that was setup for a lizard...it now houses my HB guppy fry...lol..
I have had a couple of tanks given to me too....which always helps..lol...and it's always nice to get a 30-40$ light fixture for free !
Just be on the lookout for opportunities like that..I just saw an add in a local paper...someone is giving away a 55 gallon....for FREE ! Hhhmmmm.......(now where might I be able to fit a 55 ??...)

Wow! Nice guppy tank EMG! I love the black and white theme. Love your rams too - sooo pretty......
I'm buying a 55 gallon (plus sundry accessories) off a friend of mine who is leaving the province soon. I'm going to set that up for an Oscar and a pleco (perhaps one other fish? Tinfoil barb maybe?). Anyway, the tanks are building up in our apartment.
Back to the danio issue, he's now making an absolute pest of himself in my 10 gallon community tank. Hassling the platies to no end. Gonzo the paradise fish is almost entirely healed up now, so I'm just waiting a bit longer until moving the danio back in with him. Failing that....I don't know. Maybe one of my LFS's will take a "problem danio" off my hands?
I scored a 20 Seaclear from Petcetera yesterday for half-price (yay!). I'm replacing the Petcetera brand powerfilter off my 10 gallon. Just doesn't have the 3-way filtration like the Seaclear does. I can't believe the water output on that new filter! It's amazing! I think it'll make a huge difference.

Hi JK. Nice to hear from you! Your danio needs to be in a school. Are there other danios around...if you have a problem fish he's basically acting ADD because he feels uncomfortable, lonely and bored. You need about five more danios because six is a 'feel good' amount to fin nippers like barbs and danios. Of course, more is better to a schooling fish.
Putting him in "school" should make the difference. But if you cannot take on that many danios I would go the LFS return route.
Emg, that Black and White tank is simply gorgeous. You have done the most amazing things with your tanks and fish photography!

Hi Jilly! Nice to be back.
I "had" a small school of danios way back when, however this guy is the sole survivor. Think I will take him to an LFS.... He's too much trouble at the moment! I don't have room for a school of danios to keep him company.
I got a gold apple snail for my betta, Earl, to keep him company in his bowl. So far, so good. The snail is big enough so he looks like too much trouble for Earl to eat. Earl's taken a nip or two at the snail's feelers, but nothing too traumatic. Snail is trucking around the bowl, and I think the algae is reducing.
