I'm a new mom of a beautiful 12 week old daughter, my first. I have a tattoo on my back but have been wanting to cover a scar on my wrist for 2 years. I'm a hairdresser so there is no restrictions there. I'm concerned however, that it'll effect my daughter. How do your kids react to your tattoos? Thanks!

Meg,
I think your question is more complex than the two options you've chosen. Does having a tattoo teach individuality? Maybe if you were the only person who ever had one, but in our society tattoos appear to be moving more into the mainstream.
Why would a 3 month old baby be embarassed by a tattoo? Why would a 5 year old? Why would a 15 year old? I can't believe that your child is going to grow up being embarrassed by your decision to have a tattoo unless that is the attitude that you have and that you teach to her. I have children come up to me all the time to view my tattoos. They are curious and unafraid until their parents yank them away and pass along their own perceptions of fear and prejudice.
I think you need to make the decision that feels right for you and makes you happy in your life. Taking a poll of what complete strangers think, people who don't even know you, isn't the way to make a decision about whether to get a tattoo or not.
If you truly are concerned that your tattoo will have an effect on your daughter, you shouldn't get the because of how it will effect how you think about YOURSELF.

I'm 15 and out of all of my friends (many from different cliques or "labels" ex: punk, prep, goth, skater) i dont think any of them would be embarassed of a tattoo, my dad has one and i think its cool aswell as everyone else that notices it, i dont think your daughter would be embarassed at all.

my mom has a tattoo that embarasses her to no end. it's really very cute, and it's well done.
it's WHAT it is that bothers her.
i have one tattoo, also, and i love it. i'm soon to get a few more.... they ARE addictive. like all my piercings.
i'm not embarassed of or for my mother, but i am sad that she hates her tattoo, and also hates mine.
life in plastic, SO not fantastic!

I am a tattoo mummy. My daughter is 15. I have had artwork for the past 8 years, so she is used to it by now. Both her and her friends think it is cool, and she has her first one planned for her 18th b-day.
I decided that I couldnot live my life with fear for what someone may think of me in the future. Do what you want for you. You child will understand.
