I voted yes.

Although I had to drop out after only halfway I went to school and I don't regret it.
There is money to be made. I think the key is to become a stylist that caters to the clients. In other words don't become a stylist just to "do" hair. Become a stylist so you can "Care" for your clients and their hair. And I'm not taking about being their shrink or gossip buddy. A good stylist is one who will listen to their clients and not try to force things on them. There's a market out there for stylists who can trim long hair or growing out hair without trimming more than asked. As a frequenter of many long hair growth support boards I know how people are struggling to find stylists they can trust.
Another way to gain some sure clients is to learn how to properly care for curly hair. Many stylists don't know how.

It's getting to the point where there are specialty long hair salons and specialty curly hair salons.

Just make sure that you check into financial aid programs or else be sure you'll have the money. My school charged $6000 if you paid your own way.

Just try not to rush through.

I agree with Robert. To make money in the hair business, you must care about your clients. People know when they are cared about and you will build a clientel fast.

The best advice I can give you is to learn from hairstylists that are doing very well. Emulate successful people. When you are working in a salon, never 'fit in' with the crowd that is sitting in the backroom because they are not busy.

Be prepared to work hard. It is hard work but also fun and worth it.

The hair business can be very profitable.

I do hair at a spa in my town. I graduated in September and it is honestly the best decision I've ever made. If you love hair, it is an extremely satisfying career. I make decent money now that my clientele is building up and hair can really take you anywhere. If you have any questions, let me know. Good luck!
