I was wondering, in a lot of sites I've designed.
I have a part for content in the middle of the rest.

I usually put the design in tables and use an iframe for the content, so that only the content will be reloaded when you click on a link and for the fact it can become scrollable.

I was wondering are there other ways for this aswel using CSS for example ?

or should I just stick with using an iframe ?

Hi Gerbill ... I've visited forums where using iframes was considered a "serious offense", but I'd rather use Iframes and ilayers instead of CSS. Most of the sites I design are for some facet of the entertainment industry and CSS just doesn't fit the bill - however, CSS seems to work great for more business / 3 column websites. Just my humble opinion. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

thanks.

so basicly.. it's just a matter of opinion ?
if that's the case I'll just keep using them since they're working nicely for me.

Hi Gerbill,

I would continue with what works for you. Also consider your site visitors -- how old are the computers and browsers are they using? PS. I'd love to visit your site, would you like to give me your URL?

iframes are a serious issue regarding SEO... the content is NOT visible to search engines! So, in my opinion they should never be used. If your webdsite can not achieve good ranking and be found easily by viewers, it is a wasted effort. Designing with tables, except for tabular data, is also not very SEO friendly, or the best choice. Clean CSS coding is the way to go. It allows beautiful design, less code and is SEO friendly.

Regular frame structure speaking of, left navigation and right content frames are the ones that SE wont crawl they will take either side. You can use a code however, if I remember correctly I got it off of javascript.com or something like that, but I didnt want the hassle of going through each and everyone of my page and putting this code.. was just blah. As for Iframes Ive never heard of SE not crawling them. As for deciding whether you want full CSS or tables and iframe, as someone else mentioned whatever is comfortable with you. Thats why for so long Ive been doing the iframe and tables.. but Im going to take the plunge and try and all CSS layout.
