I don't generally buy things based on ads. I was so impressed with Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty that I went out and bought a Dove product. I saw on a cable news program that the "experts" don't think this will attract women because we don't want to look like the women in the ads. Bah! I think I need to buy more....

LOL. They've sent me a few promos on their "campaign". They are making an effort however slight. I think women will be attracted by it. I don't know why the so called "experts" would think we wouldn't want to look like the women in the ads; I think their beautiful. I still think it implies if you use their product you'll look beautiful which I guess is the premise for pretty much every product sold to women.
What product did you buy? I use the face soap as a body soap because I have sensitive skin.

I bought the Nutrium body wash. It's very nice. I have dry, dry skin and it moisturizes well. My husband uses it as well. He is sensitive to fragrances and hasn't had any problems with the mild sent it contains.

There was just an article on this campaign in the main SF newspaper, as one of the women featured in the ads is an admin assistant here in the city.
I haven't talked with many women about it, but several of my male friends HAVE commented on it. You know what? These guys (30s-40s in age) are all thrilled to see pictures of women who have bodies that look like the women they meet/know/date/are-married-to in real life.

The ad is apparently targeting bigger women who want to appear more toned so I don't think anyone would be repelled not to buy the product from the ad.

Click on the photo exhibit that's been touring the world. There are 58 black and white photos. I quite enjoyed the variety of faces and bodies. There's still room for more but it's still nice to see. http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.ca/realbeauty/#

I just heard a radio piece about the increase in Dove's sales based upon the campaign.
This is important, because the bottom line is dollars. If other companies see that there is a good response, then there may be more offerings of real women. I don't expect the whole ad trend to change, but small shifts are to be celebrated.

Totally. I had really wanted to take in the exhibit in Toronto but DH didn't want to drive for 4 hours. Men!
