Sometime in May, I purchased a new betta named Moonbeam.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/TeeheeBunnies/DSCN1201.jpg

That's him the day after I got him.

Well, I noticed that unlike my other fish, he has an insatiable appetite. He's never content with the 3 pellets he's supposed to have. Rather, he'll eat 10 and still be hungry.

I spoke to a friend about this, who tends to be very knowledgeable about animals, and she told me he might have a worm, especially if his stomach is inflated.

I told her it wasn't, since he really doesn't look any different than when I got him, but comparing him to my other betta and pictures on the web now, it does seem as though his stomach is rather large. (Assuming his stomach is that area below his head)

Is it possible that he has some kind of stomach worm parasite? And if so, how do I treat him? Going to the vet isn't an option since my parents don't believe in spending so much money on a $5 fish, and I can't get there alone for lack of transportation.

When fish get internal parasites, they generally get very thin rather than fat...and eat like pigs. They will also get long stringy white poops hanging from thier vents.

But bettas just eat like pigs...lol...his belly is so big probably because he is such a pig. He may need to go a day or two without eating anything to clean him out a bit. Fasting is good for betta and helps to prevent constipation.

He's a beautiful color, but I think that one actually looks more like a gravid female to me and the large belly may be eggs. Hhhmm....see if you can get a good side picture with the tail flared and post it...I swear you have a female here.

Alright. :3 She (My friend) told me to knock his food down for a while, too.

Wait... I have a... what? o__o

Um... ok, I'll try to get a better pic of his (Her? O_O) tail and post it here. Hopefully he'll be cooperative and I'll get one fast. :3

I always figured he was male because his tail didn't look very fan-like, as in the case of all other females I've seen. I just figured his tail was smaller 'cause he's a smallish fish... @__@;

Well, here's the best picture I could get of his tail fully flared.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/MoonPrincess/DSCN1400.jpg

It's orange because the lighting is bad (That earlier picture I took during the day. It's night now and my electrical lighting in here isn't as good as sunlight), so just ignore that. It's also not so clear, but he wasn't cooperating. The flash of my camera accidentally went off and scared him, so he kept darting away from it when I tried to get closer for a pic. ^^;;;

But it's alright for now, I guess, since it at least gives you a general idea of the size & shape. :3

Edit: Mmmph, better, despite the fingerprint either on my lense or the glass... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/MoonPrincess/DSCN1403.jpg

o____o You sure? *Has no idea what a plakat is*

....>_x; I had to give up so many gorgeous girl's names 'cause I thought him to be a boy... That's how I ended up with a noun-name. 'cause I couldn't find a fitting boy's name.

I think Moonbeam is perfect for her Kieran....I wouldn't change it.

You know, it's more the shape of her body than her finnage that tells me that Moonbeam is a girl. She has a very girlish figure ! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Oh my. ^^; Alright, well thank you for answering my question...and enlightening me about Moonbeam's gender. XD Good thing the name Moonbeam works for either gender, hehe.
