How many of you are old enough to remember the "Color Me Beautiful" craze of the 1980's?

Suddenly, everyone had to know if they were a Winter, Summer, Spring, or Fall. Once you knew your "season", you could pick out your clothes, makeup, jewelry, and hair color using the handy color guides that went with each color palate.

Even though you don't hear much about this anymore, the concept is still sound. While you may not want to be limited to wearing certain colors, and not everyone cares that much about which colors are "best" for them, there really are "good" and "bad" colors for each of us.

If you want to know more about how this works, take a look at my most recent article:

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art33612.asp

I'd love to know how many out there have had their "colors done", and what you think of it.

Or, how many of you have trouble figuring out which colors you should wear?

How many don't care?

Let's hear it....

Actually colors do make a difference. I am rather into picking colors based on whether they are warm or cool, but not down to the 4 seasons. I do read books on Color Me Beautiful though.

Here's another article that instructs you on how to find the right color for your skin tone.

I had my colors done back in HS. She pegged me as an autumn, and i've been wearing neutral colors ever since. And I always get the most complements when I dye my hair and auburn/red shade.

But the funny thing is, the color that looks THE BEST on me, and everyone comments on it, is that sapphire roayl blue. I didn't think that was an autumn color at all. And my father always complains when I wear neautrals because he says I fade out, so now I'm beginning to wonder...?

fall doesnt necessarily mean 'nuetrals', then again maybe its the typr of nuetrals youre wearing...you say nuetral I think beige cream taupe...all very blah colors - think a new apartment building....

There are also all those amazing jewel tones, burgundy, plum, eggplant, emerald, forest green, chocolate brown and that deep sapphire blue.

What she reccomended were the browns, ivorys, earth-tones, oranges, greens - but not like emerald, more like nature tones; I tend to think of the forest in autumn when I picture the palette she showed me.

I never knew the jewel tones were considered neutrals; but all jewel tones don't work on me. Sapphire & emerald are good, but red washes me out, unless its a very deep red - like garnet, i've never tried yellow - I'm scared to! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

In the vocabulary of "Color me Beautiful", the jewel tones are ruby reds, sapphire blues, and emerald greens. Think of how beautiful most Asian women look in traditional costume. That's because most silks were made in these beautiful jewel tones. And because most Asian women are "Winters". The winter palatte is vivid and cool, no orangey, earthy tones. But the Autumn palatte is earthy. Look for rich, intense colors but make sure they have yellowy, golden, and orange undertones. Mustard and Avacado, Terra Cotta, Garnet, etc. Here's a picture of the Autumn Color Palatte. I'll be adding these to my site shortly.

While this is often true, it can be a problem if you have brown eyes. There are many brown eyed people who look terrible wearing brown!

The majority of "Winter" color types have brown eyes and should avoid wearing brown. A pale, putty color is the only brown that looks good on a Winter.

Here's the Winter color palatte:

Winter

Remember, when viewing colors online, that you may not see the true colors. It all depends on your computer's monitor.

If the reds in the Winter palatte look orangey, then your colors are coming across too yellow. (If the Autumn reds look orangey, that's correct!)

Winter reds are cool reds, with blue undertones. This is true for all colors in a cool color palatte, just as all colors in a warm color palatte have yellowy, golden undertones. Yes, even blue can be warm when you mix in a bit of yellow!

I've scanned in the color swatch booklets for each color group so you can view them or print them out. Remember that your computer's monitor affects whether the colors are true or not!
