I am going to start my first crochet project. It is a hooded baby blanket.

This is what I don't understand. The pattern reads Pattern Stitch (multiple of 3 sts)
Row 1 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 1 sc and 2 dc in next chn rep from * across, ending with skip 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch. ch 2 turn.

Row 2 2dc in first sc, *skip 2 dc, 1 sc and 2 dc in next sc. rep from *across, with 1 sc in top of t-ch. ch 2, turn. Rep Row 2 for pat.

What does "Pattern Stitch (multiple of 3 sts)" mean?

I dont see where it says how many stitches to start out with.

Please help.

Colleen

Sorry, I tried to reply yesterday, but Comcast's internet server was busted. Anyway, if this isn't the pattern you're looking for, I think it's a good starting point. It says to start with a ch 108. It also has a mult of 3 stitches. What that means is the pattern is 3 stitches long. You're going to chain a number of stitches that is divisible by 3 so you can make it however large or small you want it.

Samantha,

That is the exact pattern I was looking at. So if I understand correctly, the pattern reads "PATTERN STITCH (multiple of 3 sts)
Row 1 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, 1 sc and 2 dc in next ch; rep from * across, ending with skip 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch. Ch 2, turn."

So the *skip2 ch, 1 sc and 2dc ch in next ch; rep from* gets dont 3 times in a rown on each row 1? Is that correct?

Here's what it will look like.

row 1: 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook,

*skip 2 ch, in the next chain, you're going to do 1 sc and 2 dc all in the same space* repeat the instructions between the *'s until you have 3 chs left. Skip next 2 chs and in the last ch, you'll do 1 sc.

The repeats (instructions between the *'s) will take up 3 stitches for each repeat. Does that make sense?
