The kind of scary thing is that Benjamin Franklin wanted to make the turkey our national bird instead of the bald eagle. What would we have eaten then??!!!! Yes, of course! this is one of the question in our poll - people eat cookies dyed with national colors, use napkins with flag.... I did see even happy diapers for July 4th! What about toilet papier with American flag?
besides it was not turkeys that warned Boston about the British
Hm, I was sure it was turkeys. You know, when colonists and Indians were having a party on one of the ships in Boston, the British decided to launch a sudden attack and steal some valuable tea. They have always loved tea so much. But turkeys began gaggling ha ha ha ha and warned everybody. The colonists and Indians preferred to throw tea into the sea rather than let it become the British prey. And the British considered it outrageous and thus the war started.

Jerzy,
Maybe I should send you some easy books on American history, especially Boston and the Revolutionary War?

I'd be kinda scared my "unmentionables" might turn that color! We do have red, white and blue cereal!
Michelle Taylor Why me? What did I do to deserve this? (go on, ask)

Right now I hear all types of fireworks outside. Here in Idaho one can buy firerworks just during the 4th of July weekend and a week before.
Anyways, for us Europeans it is a bit funny that Americans use important symbols (like flag) to very practical applications - like three-colored cookies.
Recently I saw chocolate crosses - to eat as a symbol for Easter made in China. I could not eat something like that!

I think it's because over here everything translates into FOOD! Heck, everything is about commercialism. If someone can sell it, they will. And ever since 9/11 patriotic themes have been HOT! It is rather sad that the majority of manufacturers are people who could care less about America (other than their wallets that is).
I'm with you on the chocolate cross, though. I saw them this past Easter and didn't really think about it, but now that you brought my attention to it, that is kind of sacriligious!

So I guess many people have strange feelings about eating it!
