I have a question for everyone. What would you say, do, think about someone who would say the following? "I am a natural 100%, Salem, Ma five generation born and raised 'good witch.' I assume you are the 'other kind,' the weaker one..(if at all)." Personally my first reaction was LMAO and nearly dropping my laptop. What does geographical locations have to do with being a Witch? I understand about being a hereditary witch. That means that a person is taught Witchcraft by a parent, close relative, or guardian. However, I do not believe that there is a "Witchcraft" gene that can be passed down from one generation to another. And what "other kind" of witch could this person be referring to? A "bad witch" or an "evil witch." And do they believe that because they are "good" and I am "evil" I am the weaker witch? *shakes head* I sometimes really don't understand people. I really don't. I am so not a people person. Sorry folks, thinking out of my head again.

Brightest Blessings

and how come nobody asks, "are you a good christian, or a bad christian?" or, "are you a good buddhist, or a bad buddhist?"

The only thing that comes into my mind is Glinda the Good Witch on The Wizard Of Oz, asking Dorothy if she was a good witch or a bad witch. Perhaps some of the people asking this question saw the movie over and over as youngsters, (as many of us did) and it just comes out of their mouth. After all, it was an important question and the Munchkins would not come out until they were assured she was not a bad witch. The movie would not have been the same if the Munchkins stayed hidden the whole time, giggling in the bushes. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> There are probably other movies with good or bad witches, and the question might not be as personal as you take it, just kind of silly.

I agree with Firefly. I hear Glenda asking Dorothy if she is a good witch or a bad witch. We are all both. There has to be both or there can be neither. It's a question of balance.

I can see where you & Firefly are coming from, it is a cartoon-like oversimplification to say Good Witch or Bad Witch & I certainly don't think witchery is restricted by birthplace. And yes, none of us is completely good or completely bad, that's far too black & white.

However I think we have to be honest. There are people out there that raise power & use it with very negative intent; not everyone has integrity & positive intention. They'll get their karmic payback, but in the meantime they can cause a fair bit of trouble.

Being a "bad witch" or a "good witch" really isn't a matter of where I was born. I'd like to think that even I have a chance to become.. say.. uh.. a good witch even though I live in Finland. Nobody can take my beliefs away from me. This is a gift given to me, to all witches. Where's the judge who can say my witchcraft isn't worth anything just because I wasn't raised as a wicca???

Someone who says that either has no idea what Witchcraft is (since when do all WItches come from Salem?), or they have been watching waaaaaay to many Charmed episodes or been reading too much of the Sweep series...sounds like that person is the true fake!

Good witch or Bad Witch? Sounds like Good Cop/Bad Cop *laughter*.

However, I have to tend to agree with Lauren Ravenstar, in that there are people who use the Power for Dark useage. The Power is as it is...it is neither Good nor Evil...but it can be turned for either purpose.

I am a hereditary witch; and there is no such a thing as a 'witchcraft gene'. A creativity gene, maybe, but not a witchcraft one. Someone who is so bold as to say 'You are of the 'weaker' kind' sounds to me as if they were actually frightened of you, and had to do a bit of bluster to 'save face'. Its all in THEIR fears and perceptions, not anyone else's.

I help in moderating a spiritual website, and as I tell everyone who gets upset at people who are there to disrupt -- ' It is all in the way we react to them; no reaction, and they eventually find other prey, at other sites. Tell them you care for them, and leave it at that. Either put the person on ignore, or lurk, or talk to someone else so you are ignoring the jibes and insults. In the end, it is up to you to determine if you will reactt o them or not.' For some, that is difficult to do, for others, they see the wisdom of that right away; eventually, most learn to tolerate what is thrown at them, and not respond....the disrupters eventually leave....*S*

We must accept that people fear what they don't understand. Look at the way witchcraft has been presented throughout history. One cannot change people's perspectives, nor do I wish to. If asked, I usually smile and reply that I'm a "white witch" and leave it at that. People don't really want to get into a theological discussion and they are more comfortable with talking to a "good witch". It's much easier to relate to someone on that level than to try to get them to understand that what christianity has taught them their whole lives is misguided. Let them believe what they want good or bad. We know what we are.
