Hmmmmm, my migraines DO NOT like pressure changes much. I'm not sure where you live, but here in GA with (I think it's Christy) coming in the pressure has been low-low and I've been living with a migraine for about 3 days. You head might have had something to do with that rather than what you ate.

Lisa, I showed my husband the post about keeping healthy stuff in the house. (He's been on this wild baking kick lately- trying to keep up with my chef brother I think.) Anyway, i pointed out to him how hard it is for me NOT to be tempted by that stuff, he goes, "But i'm giving most of it away!" So I have to point out that the chocolate chips are still available!
We did a clean-out of the fridge like you suggested. i'm still having a hard time recovering from the D&C, so walking (even slowly) for any distance is very painful - teh surgery didn't quite go as planned.
I'm still planning on having WLS, but the more I get under control now, the easier it will be afterward. Of course my older two are still in MS visiting their Dad, so we'll see what kind of mutiny I have whent they get home.

Chantal - it sounds like you're eating nice and healthy! I also found when I switched from my junk-food high carb diet to a low carb diet that I was amazed how less hungry I was. Before, I would eat a meal, and an hour later I'd be hungry all over again. Now, when I eat a meal, it actually makes me full. I do have to remind myself to eat sometimes, and to drink a ton of water. It really helps out so much with the weight loss. It's not that you're "starving yourself". If anything you're forcing yourself to eat even though you're not really hungry again. It's the whole blood sugar thing - you're now eating because there is a need to eat, not because your blood sugar is doing a rollercoaster and has hit a low after a high-carb meal spike.
I love stir fry - it's so easy, tasty, and nutritious!

MM - that's great on the fridge clean-out! I know that kids will complain - but that is their nature. I have a 16 yr old There are a lot of parents out there who simply have no junk food in their house. My stepmom is a vegetarian health food person and her home simply had no junk in it. It's the way things were. I realize you feel guilty - but you don't need to present it a "this is for me" thing. Make it a "this is healthy for ALL of us" thing. With the obesity rate of young adults, one of the best things we can do for our kids is to train them early on to eat healthy snacks and foods. I know, easier said than done, but it's at least a ground to stand on. You should never feel guilty about having healthy food in the house - many parents in the world just dream about having *food* for their kids. They would *love* to have your problem.
I have an inexpensive ice cream maker and there are a ton of great low carb ice cream recipes on my site that are really tasty. They taste like premium ice cream. They are also super easy to make. So tell the kids that they can have ice cream, it'll just take 1/2 hr and will be better than store brand. So it's their choice. For candy, there are hundreds of low carb / sugar free candies on the market that are just as tasty as the sugar variety. This isn't the "cardboard chocolate" of 10 years ago - they literally can taste 100% like the sugar type.
But it really does come down to removing the sugary foods from the entire house. I really know how easy it is to "cheat" if it's sitting right there. You don't even think about it. My boyfriend was over 300 pounds and a lot of it was just casual snacking. We had to sweep the house and give away *everything* high sugar. Once we only had low sugar items in the house, it was super easy not to eat high sugar things! It was just what was there. If you want to reach for something easy, and the choices are all healthy ones, then you grab one of them. But I have to tell you, when we brought Oreos into the house for my son, it was us (me and my boyfriend) who gobbled them up. Just because they were there. If the Oreos are NOT in the house, we don't even think about eating any.
I'm sorry to hear about the surgery! Hopefully you will heal from that soon. Hopefully you'll heal enough soon that you can go for short walks. While other types of exercise feel like "work" and tend to get dropped after a day or two, taking walks actually feels relaxing and comforting and is something you end up looking forward to

MM, hang in there, girl! It is hard but not impossible! You are getting some great advice here and sounds like you have all the doctors lined up and the husband on board and you have the right attitude. I agree with everything that Lisa has to say about the walking and the water. I just had open heart surgery 8 weeks ago and could barely walk down my sidewalk to the mailbox without losing my breath, but everyday, it got easier and I was able to go further. The amazing thing was that I wanted to drink more water than eat afterwards and after a few weeks, I noticed a would lose a pound or two every 3 or 4 days. It was amazing. Anyway, stick with it. Keep sugar free popsicles or sugar free philly swirls in the freezer so the kids can't argue about no snacks (and they are good for you, too)
Best of Luck!

Water! Thast's my other big problem - i hate it! i'll be "good" for a while (since David works for coke I feel like I'm doin double good if I buy Dasani), but then it is just so Boring! I tried lemons & fruit and other stuff, it tastes like water w/ stuff in it.
But i've got to get used to it one way or the other, I don't have much choice!

MM - I HATED water too - I never ever drank water up until maybe 3 yrs ago. Now I absolutely HAVE TO have it. My body craves it. I have a water bottle at my desk and I just keep filling it all day. I used to have to force myself to drink it - I hated it so much my throat felt like it closed up whenever I would drink water. Just keep making yourself drink it and eventually you do get used to it. I still have to pee every 20 minutes which is a pain in the butt but if I don't have my water I sure miss it.

Chantal - it's odd that you have to pee that much. Your bladder should in essence expand once you start drinking more water, to handle your drinking habit. You might want to talk to a doctor about that - things like enlarged organs can push against your bladder and make you pee more often. Also, as women age, their muscles "down there" tend to weaken unless they exercise them. Exercising your pelvic muscles bring many benefits - including better bladder control.
MM - I used to hate water and I agree with the others, it comes down to training your body. It's sad that we are such a soda society in modern times that many of us don't grow up drinking water! Try drinking diet lemonade, diet iced tea, etc. Also try getting a water filter (Brita etc) and see if that helps. Sometimes if you're drinking city water, it's the off flavors in the water you are complaining about. Many bottled waters aren't great when it comes to that either.

Hey Lisa,
Believe me I've had my bladder looked at and there is apparantly nothing wrong with me. I thought I was going to die when I had to get an ultrasound because I had to drink a bunch of water and then not pee until after they looked at my full bladder. My bladder was actually too full so then I had to go just a little to get rid of some (had to do that twice). My muscles (I think)are strong though - I don't have a problem with controlling my urine and I do 'exercise' those muscles - gotta keep the bf happy - hahahhahha

oh dear....am almost ashamed to admit what my daily menu has consisted of lately!
Since my major backslide this month it's been anything but low carb!
For example today: breakfast; cup of raspberry yogurt no snack lunch; half a pbj sandwich small lunch bag size of rice chex mix and some slices of manderaine oranges.
late afternoon(about 4pm); turkey/ham and swiss sandwitch small lunch size bag of bugles.
late dinner (about 7pm); another turkey/ham and swiss sandwich
then to finish off the night I had not one but TW0 star crunch chocolate crisp snack cakes and washed it down with a can of coke...
*************
now then..on a possitive note... I did go to the grocery store and bought all the fixing for my all time favorite anta pasta salad.. and do seriously plan to get back on track and actually start eating right again!
I so desperately need to do this!- I hate the bloated lathargic feeling I have right now from eating the above items..*gags*
