The biggest contributors to our over population problem is the mormons. I don't want to sound judgemental but it is true. These people marry young and have an outragous amount of children. The earth is to be shared with all life how selfish of these people to pop out kid after kid to help over populate and destroy it. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Call me crazy, but you cant blame the entire planets over population problem on one tiny faction of a branch of christianity. You might as well blame orthodox catholics, and all the societies that quietly condone female genocide because a boy is 'worth' more than a girl child and we all know that a woman can be pregnant (typically) with 1 child at one time while a man can have many women pregnant at one time. Or perhaps we should blame our ancestors who had as many children as possible to ensure that atleast one or 2 survived to adult hood.

I am not blaming the entire planets problems on Mormons. I am referring to just the U.S. and while most everyone procreates Mormons do more than their fare share. They are not helping any.

Well done, Wendy T-O, I was going to say that there are countries that are actually paying couples to have children. There are governments that are concerned that there will be no workforce in the future.

Mormons have large families, yes. They are also very spread out. Salt Lake City is one of the most spacious cities I've ever visited. The size of the Mormon family is decreed by their religious convictions, and it is no more "wrong" for them to follow their convictions than it is for you to follow yours. Or for my parents to follow theirs; or for me to follow mine. Some people are "called" to have many children; some are not. As the eldest of a very large family, I can say with some conviction that I would not have it any other way. Though I have only one child, that was my choice. You may also notice that as a general rule, Mormons pay their own way, raise their children well, and are upstanding citizens.

I admit is was not exactly a good title for the forum but in my opinion IT IS WRONG TO OVER POPULATE AN ALREADY SEVERLY STRESSED ENVIRONMENT. I think it is sick for one person to bear so many children regaurdless of how they raise their kids. What are these people thinking? The earth can't handle the damage we are doing to it. The damage to the environment today is due to what was done upto 30 years ago. So the pollution we are creating now wont effect the environment for several years. And again I was only referring to the U.S. one of the largest polluters in the world.

But the environment will probably distroy us before we are able to completely distroy it. There are already dozens of people who die each year from extreme weather, caused by global warming, such as flooding, drought, and extreme heat.

Twenty years ago, scientists were decrying the appearance of the zebra mussel in the filthy, polluted Great Lakes. It was an environmental catastrophe. Ballast water from Japanese ships was blamed. Oh, whatever would happen?

Now, at least one of the lakes is clear, clean and home to edible wall-eye for the first time in heaven knows how long.

The zebra mussel, that little dickens, is a filter feeder, and their proliferation in the lakes is responsible for removing the particulate junk that had collected in these lakes.

Call this a parable of a kind, okay?

I don't advocate waste, pollution, or irresponsible reproduction, and you are right on many points, but please don't bring family size into the conversation. These are people you are talking about, not Soylent Green. I actually fear for our species, for many of the same reasons you offer. Methinks we may need more babies, not fewer in the times to come if the human race is to survive.

Pollution and the things that are so important to us all are not caused entirely by population. They are caused by environmental abuses permitted by corrupt and irresponsible industry and government. And ignorance. And a lot of other things, but the planet has the capacity to bear many more people than are already here without becoming overpopulated. Don't judge the population by the relatively few big cities and suburbs. There are still vast areas of the U.S. even that are quite sparsely populated. But most people wouldn't want to live in these places.

People who don't want to have kids shouldn't have them. People who feel as you do who want to have children, maybe they will adopt them.
People who want large families and are willing to make the sacrifices involved should not be emotionally or spiritually molested for their choice. All the children of all the devoutly religious who obey the rules of their faith and have large families put together would not amount to a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things. It's all the gazillion people who have three kids who make the mess.<G>

Peace,

I don't mean to be negative or trifling...but this is a ridiculous discussion....

MORMONS!!!???!!! REALLY!!!!???!!!

that's almost as bad as blaming the Jewish people....remember Hitler???!!!

Or the ethnic cleansing over in Kosovo....

Are we really going to be this petty????

Jenna, I don't think petty is the right word. Ignorant is more appropriate.

well now, the girl does have a point...just went about her argument wrong. It would be better to be irritated withbig industrial companies who find it cheaper to pay the $500 fines than install a $5000 air filter on their smoke stacks. Also, what of large cities and their refuse? I have daily smog & ozone reports with the weather guy all summer and I live more than an hour from any recognizable 'big city'.
Also, instead of griping about some religious sects breeding practices get away from the pc and do something. Organize a community trash pick up day or a car pool or something regardless of how many children you do or dont have. Who knkows, maybe one of those kids will figure out a way to cure innumerable diseases or anything else.

Unfortunately Wendy, Jenna always goes about her arguments wrong and with a negative attitude. Comes across as being very a opinionated person! Christianity, huh - where's hers?
