I am really appaled by the fact that the judge took it upon himself to add that to the decree. If it was a battle between the parents that would be one thing but the judge put his own personal opinion into the jusgement.

YIKES, that is awful. I have a bit of a funny story very similar to that case. My son, who is 9 and who is being taught Wiccan/Pagan ways, use to play with this little girl well anyway, her father has custody and one day he comes over to pick her up and starts telling my husband and I how terrible the girls mother is and that she is trying to get custody etc. etc. And he is telling us all her faults (there weren't any but that was our opinion) and then he looks at me and says and I quote "And another thing, she is a pagan witch or something and I just know that the judge won't give her custody because of that" !!!!! Yes my mouth opened and my eyes bugged out, but I said very calmly, it is a recognized religion and I asked him if he has EVER bothered to read about it or ??? He said he had not and that as far as he was concerned it isn't a religion but a cult that should be outlawed!!! Since my son and this girl were good friends, I kept my mouth shut. My husband really wanted to tell this guy that your little girl plays here for hours on end and we have not eaten her yet !!!!!

This is just a little scary, when a judge tells you what you can and can not teach your own child. I am not against any type of religion, and I say all the time.....Gee wouldn't it be great if at school they allowed a moment of silence and if all the kids were to learn about other types of religion, imagine that teaching tolerence (just my opinion). I do teach my son to respect others beliefs and to more or less "live and let live".

Sadly, there are several spiritual paths in this world that clearly include the idea that tolerance for other religious beliefs is not necessary.

I have a friend who lost custody of his child in a divorce where the mother was pagan, switched over to born-again Christian for the divorce proceedings to use the paganism against the dad, and then went back to being pagan once she had full custody of the son. That was *really* sad.

I saw a great bumper sticker on a car the other day that read "Curb your God. Fundamentalism in any Color is Ugly." It's so true.
