I've noticed this trend among CFs. I have two weimaraners- in the dog world known as "velcro" (sp?) because they form such strong bonds with their owners. Way better than kids!!!

When my boyfriend sees me to look after my dog, he always tries to argue with me, why, when I am so great dogs mother, why I dont rather get my own baby? I just want to point out here, that for me (and I am sure that for others as well) ownership of a pet doesnt mean replacement for a baby! While CF, there is nothing missing in my life!

Does it concern only about weimaraners, or other pointers as well? I am asking, because I've got a pointer too, and he is the most lovely dog I ever had!!!

I know that I have heard the use of the word velcro in reference to weimaraners- but I grew up with a German Shorthair Pointer and it was the same way- they are wonderful, loving animals (Who will never do drugs or drink underage or any of the other horrible things kids do to their parents)...Let me be clear for others too- this in no way is some warped way of replacing a baby- I just love dogs- Wish I could figure out how to post their picture

I agree antimother. I have a dog, a cat, and a hamster. My family has always had pets and I don't know how to not have one. I don't use a pet as a replacement for a child, I just love little furry things.

My animals are easy to care for especially the cat who is completly independant, in fact I think she moved out. A child however would be a nightmare. I would be a horrible mother and I feely admit that.

I also have a dog and would love to get another. I like cats as well, but husband is allergic. We think that having pets over all of your life is somewhat like having a permanent child, because pets never become totally self-sufficient and grow-up like kids.
