BellaOnline Forums Home and Garden Birds Zebra Finch with a eye infection?

One of my birds has a weird eye. I first noticed that a few days ago her head would tend to tilt to one side, when I came home the same day she wasn't flying straight, and hanging out towards the bottom of the cage. So, assuming she was sick, I took her out of the group cage and isolated her. It accord to me she was very easy to catch. Later that night I noticed that she was blinking on eye, alot. It was also puffy and a lighter color then the other, with some sort of gunk in it. I cheack my other 5 and none have it, yet, but I'm going to keep an eye out....

I can't take her to the vet, (I don't have that kind of money at the momoent) but I would really love to help her. I already called the pet shop but they have nothing to help her.

Should keep her seperate from my other finches, or will the others not get it?

Since we have no idea what the problem is, there is no way I could tell you whether this eye problem is contagious or not. Possibly she injured it on a branch or during a fight with another bird. I would definitely keep her away from the other birds in a warm draft free container for now though.

You really should try to take her to an avian vet. Talk to them to see if they would accept payments if you can't afford the whole amount right now.
