I've been frosting my hair blonde for longer then I can even remember... but I've been wanting a major change for a while now.

I worry though about skin color- and if going back to my natural darkish/auburn would really be okay. I've read that if your skin is naturally light/pink-ish then blonde is a good color but if it's olive/darker colored then dark hair is the way to go... does this really make a huge difference??

I've also read that men now days are partial to the dark haired beauties and no longer that 'into' blondes... Not that this is my primary reason for wanting the change..but hey..I'd be lying if I said it didn't play a slight factor in the decission making process..lol

A hair stylist friend of mine also once told me: "Nature seldome makes mistakes"... so what do you think...would it look okay to have the darker hair back even though the skin color is very light??

ps
here's a picture taken many many moons ago of me before I ever thought of changing the color of my hair. - and it's still that naturally curly- but wished it were straight and not so thick..blah!! which is a whole nother thread entireley..

If your skin is very pale or light, I would leave the blond in. But if it is dark, going back to brown would be the best thing to do.
At least, that's how it SHOULD be as a general guideline. It all depends on your flavor. If you prefer to wake up and see yourself in the morning with dark brown/black hair, then stop with the highlights. If that's not the case, well, then make sure you don't forget the next appointment with your hairdresser.

It's true, men are looking more and more at women with brown hair, just because a lot of people step to the hairdresser and demand their hair to be colored brown (such as myself) or red.
My hairdresser looked a bit strange when she heard me asking for a coloring, especially when I added that I wanted to go darker each time I came for a visit. I'm now at level 4 and want to go to level 2. Not a level 1, since I don't like black.

Colleagues at work tell me that coloring my hair at my age is rediculous, that I should wait until the grey hairs start setting in. Pfft, I've been wearing my ash blond hair for more then 20 years and I always liked very dark brown hair colors, even when my skin is very light.
I've went from a level 5 to 4 just 3 days ago. It's getting darker each time I visit the hairdresser and I like it more and more each time I visited her.

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

Hi Charise,
I think darkening your hair slightly would bring out more color in your skin tones.

If you have started getting some gray hair, you may not want to go back to your original dark auburn, because your skin often starts losing color along with your hair. However, I think you would be surprised to see how attractive a medium auburn would be.

I read (or heard) that men have always preferred light brown over blond. Right now we certainly see many models and stars with very dark hair.

Hi girls,

thanks so much for the feedback! You're right, my skin has lightened over the years.. I've lost a lot of the freckles as well.. and yes...I've seen a grey hair here and there sneaking its way in..grr..lol

I just stumbled across one of your articles Lynne, and it touched base with exactly how I'm thinking and where I think I'd like to go with my hair.

This really summed things up for me so both comments along with this article may have just given me the insentive I needed.

And hey... if for some reason it just doesn't suite my taste once I have it for a month or so.. I can always go back <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
