So I got my new betta, we named him Napoleon. He's a real pretty teal color, the light in the aquarium really makes him shine. My problem, is that when I put his food in the tank, the water coming out of the filter pushes the food down to the bottom before Napoleon can see it floating. Is there some kind of device to keep the food corralled so he can find it? Some kind of floating barrier maybe or something?

When I feed my betta in a toplighted tank, it doesn't work. If the light is really bright, it seems like it blinds him. I have to turn off the top light, and turn on surrounding lights so he can see me, and the food when I drop it in. I've conditioned him to recognize tapping on the top of the tank as feeding time too, though. I'd just suggest trying the feeding with the top light off and see if he can actually see it, first.

[color:"purple"] yes, there are plastic rings you can get that will float on the top of the water - just put the food inside the ring so that the fish can get to it before it sinks to the bottom. you might try looking for one that has a suction cup attached so that you can put it (and keep it) in a spot that is away from the filter.

try to feed at the same time every day - the fish will become accustomed to it and will eat the food as soon as you put it in - less food wasted/lost.[/color]

How bout the bottom of a styrofoam cup ? just place it over the food when you put it in there...very cost effective ! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

There's an idea! napoleon has actually gotten pretty quick now, and eats the food as soon as it hits the water.
