Hi everyone,
I had posted that I thought my red betta, Ignatius, had swimbladder a week or so ago, because he was swimming so funny. Eventually, I became convinced that swimbladder wasn't it entirely, as he was laboring very hard to breathe, and just seemed all around miserable, laying around his tank and rarely swimming. Ultimately, I started feeding him regular food again, and changing his water every day, but after a few days he stopped eating. I knew then that he was not long for our world He died Saturday morning, and I gave him a proper fishie funeral. He was a very good fish.
I'm still not entirely sure what happened. The lady at the fish store suggested dropsy, but he didn't get pinecone scales, or seem bloated. She also said he may have just been old. I've had him for about a year, and I got him from PetSmart. I suppose it's possible he was close to a year before I even got him. Regardless, I'm very sad. He was my first betta and I was very attached to him. Such a feisty, cute little guy.
I have one other betta, a blue one named Elijah. My husband and I are moving currently to a bigger apartment, and after we get settled, I think I'll get a new brother for Elijah I liked having two fish.
