I am happy to report that although the snow plow relocated my daffodils that were at the front corner of the property, they still managed to bloom just fine. I just finished off the strawberry bed and plan to rototil the tomato bed today.

What are you doing in the garden?

Yesterday: we built a new flower bed. I had bought a bird bath and we made a large circle and put the bird bath in the center. I planted some mini daffodills that I had in pots around the bird bath.

I also planted some red hot pokers for the hummingbirds when they come through here. Also I planted some gladiola bulbs. I have never done those before and am unsure if I waited too long to plant.

Hubby tilled up my elephant ear bed and my other bed that I haven't decided what to do with. We moved here a year and a half ago, we are on an acre lot and the previous owners only mowed the grass. We planted some new trees last year, started a veggie garden, started 2 flower gardens and also we have been working on building compost bins. There is still lots of work to do yet!

I just put out a flying piglet next to my hydrangea from last year...I am putting the caladium bulbs, impatiens, and some other big pots together this week unless it rains all week like they are threatening...then next week will do just fine. I am hoping to get another hydrangea and a dogwood this year or maybe another Japanese maple...I have some hosta to break up and replant too....and some day lilies...and!!! ack!! Why am I typing this???

We got 2 cherry trees planted yesterday and went to Walmart and they had all their bulbs on sale for $1 a bag. So we got 2 bags of 25 gladiolas (originally $8.95) and a couple of bags of daylillies...I think they have 5 in each bag. So more stuff to find homes for LOL.

Unfortunately, it is supposed to get down to 28 here tonight. This is definitely NOT a good thing for my Japanese maple, hydrangeas, and hostas...sigh....the first two are totally leafed out. I can put a bucket over my giant hosta s it comes up later and as for the rest. It will be ugly tomorrow that is for sure! Luckily the cone-flowers, columbine, and lavender rudibeckia don't care much about cold. I will have to bring all the impatiens and osteospermum(Afrikan Daisy) into the house...what a bother!

It was supposed to get down to freezing here as well. Yesterday after supper we ran around like crazy covering garden plants and flowers that decided yesterday was the day to break through the ground! I also drug a bunch of pots in the house.

Roni, did it get to freezing there? I don't think it made it and hubby is grumbling "all that work for nothing"...I said "YEAH...no freeze"!!

I'm planning on lifting the daffs this year and splitting them up. They are doing so well that they aren't all blooming. They're crowding themselves out of bloom. Then, I'll have lovely holes dug to insert all the new stuff I get for the pre Mother's Day flower shopping!
I've planted the cannas I lifted last fall and hope to see some green show up on them. The ones I left in the container to winter over are doing very well. I take no chances with my cannas!
Since it's raining and nasty outside today, I'm potting up some of the cuttings I had saved over the winter and making a show-off container of the Spathyphyllum that have been lying around in their little greenhouse pots all winter. They are starting to bloom again, so I want to move them all (4 of them) to one large good-looking pot.

Water your green thumbs!

Hubby is on vacation this week so we are doing mega yard work! Yesterday we got the front yard done...we raked stuff up and ran it through the shredder. Lots of branches and twigs were still left from our bad ice storm this winter. Yesterday evening we went out for supper and bought a bunch of flowers for my new circular bed around the bird bath.

The weather has been so close to freezing, we finally gave up on covering everything up and hopefully the chance for freezing is gone till this fall.

Today we are tackling the back yard. I think we will both be tired today! The back yard is way worse than the front!

Happy Gardening All!! Connie
