Someone on another forum thinks I know every site and have a pattern for everything, so > I have found a site for a Knitted tote , but just pictures of Crochet totes and Purses and Hats but to buy patterns. I think they want free ones. I think EVA said something about felting. Give me some free pattern sites. !!! XO

Think of felting as a SHRINKING process. You can make a swatch, felt it so that you can see exactly how much it will shrink or you can do like I do and just crochet big, put it in the washer (it takes several washing) and felt it. I will go in search of a better explanation

Felting only works with 100% yarn. Once you've knitted or crocheted your bag, hat, slippers, whatever, you wash it in very hot water in the washing machine and can dry it in the dryer as well. Depending on how small you want the bag or whatever to be and tight you want the final stitches to be, determines how many times you wash it. You just have to keep in mind while knitting/crocheting an item that it will shrink, so be sure to make it bigger than you plan for.
Hope this is understandable.

NOTE: Felting does not work with SuperWash wool or any wool that has another fiber in it. It has to be 100% natural wool.

Oh, and also...felting is a process of making the final item fuzzy (for lack of a better term.) I believe felting and fulling are the same process. Some felt/full using a needle by poking the felt needle into the wool and pulling it out....creating the fuzzy look. I prefer the washing machine method because once an item is washed/dried, you can't hardly see the stitches.

You're more than welcome, Mother Hen. And I highly recommend Marlo's felt patterns. She writes very understandable instructions. If I could do it, anyone can.

Felting and Fulling ARE NOT the same. As a matter of fact they are just about opposite of each other. Please see: http://www.fuzzygalore.biz/articles/fulling.shtml which will give you a very good idea about the differences. You must use 100% wool to do either. It is alot of fun.
