Hi
I'm new to this forum but it looks great! We have lots of pets...a springhaas, coatimundi, the lessor exotic white bunny who is boss of everyone, and 3 dalmatians who are totally intimidated by everyone else. In the past we also had an apricot skunk who was just the love of my life. Someday, I may try for another skunk. Anyway, my question is that we are thinking of purchasing another exotic pet that is quite expensive and it is at a pet store called s and s exotic pets in Houston. We are in the Pacific NW so this is not a local store for us and we've never dealt with them before. Does anyone here have any knowledge about them? We've talked to them on the phone and plan to drive there to pick up the newcomer when it comes in, BUT it would be so helpful to know if others have had any experience with them that they can share to either put our minds at ease or to cause us to reconsider.
Thanks!
Carol

Do you have a picture of the apricot skunk? I have never heard of this pet store. What animal are you picking up? Email me if it is not for a public forum to have printed. I might be able to help you find a breeder. I want another skunk BAD! My last one was a rescue poor little buy was abused by one owner and in a major fire with another. He had a happy home with use for a couple of years before he passed on. I have had black and whites, swirls and brown and white. They are all beautiful. We are trying to put together a photo gallery and would appreciate donations of pictures to include in the gallery.
Thanks,
Diana

Hi Diane,
I'll really have to dig around for a picture of Rosie the skunk. She passed away about 10 years ago before digital photos! We had her for nearly 8 years and even bottle fed her as a baby. She died when she was almost 8. She had blood sugar problems all of her life, so was never really top knotch healthy and we worked with vets to manage it as best we could, but in the end that is what she died from. She was such a great pet, very smart and loving. She would sling herself over my shoulder near my neck and just stay there.
We bought her in Georgia, which is where we lived then and while living there belonged to a wonderful skunk club who had Jane Bone the famous Skunk Lady as president. She is the owner of a skunk who lived over 20 years. We learned a lot from all of the other skunk owners and had so much fun too. There were parties around each holiday and everyone would bring their pet skunks. We are talking about 20-30 skunks at each party!! They had a blast too.
To take the place of a picture of Rosie, I'm attaching a picture of Cody our coatimundi one of our current pets. We can't have pet skunks in the state we are in now. It is so odd because nearly everything else is legal, but not skunks, raccoons, foxes, and a few others. Yet, a coatimundi is legal and she is closely related to raccoons!! Anyway, Cody was supposed to be our "skunk substitute", but she has taught us that she is quite her own person and not to be confused with Rosie!

I have known Jane for many years a very special woman. I remember when her 20-year-old skunk passed away. She was devastated. Jane has done a lot teaching skunk awareness taking away many of the ridiculous notions people have. Even a few vets will still insist that skunks "carry" rabies. They contract it just like any other mammal. Skunks are wonderful pets my hope is that all people have the opportunity to learn how wonderful they are and what the wild skunk does to help the environment. In addition, I wish the money hungry drug companies would get off their duffs and do the research required to test a rabies vaccine already proven to work with skunks. With this vaccination, there would be no problem or issues of having skunks as pets in any state.

Cody is a doll and thank you for the picture. If you ever do find a picture of Rosie I would be glad to scan it for you and send you a CD so that you can post it on the web. All animals have their own personalities!
