Kids in general don't have fear of tattoos or think they are weird until they are taught to be that way by their parents.

My latest heartwarmer came from a friend of mine who was my roommate at a pagan convention two weeks ago. She has two little boys, ages 3 and 5 now, and I like to dote on them when we all hang out together. As she was getting ready for the con, the boys were asking what she would be doing and who she would be staying with.

She tells them that she will be rooming with Rae, and when the 5 year old says "Rae? Rae?" the 3 year old goes, "You know.... Auntie Tattoo!" I laughed repeatedly over the weekend thinking about that one again and again.

The younger they are the more accepting they are likely to be, for instance my mother and i differ greatly in our views of whats acceptable and whats not (tattooes and piercings for example) But through beeing exposed to both of us my younger sister is like the coolest little chick...One day when I was picking her up from daycare we got into the car and she looked over at me and said that her teacher said that I was a sinner and that God couldnt love me because I had tattoos, I asked her if she thought that was true after thinking for a while she said that no she thinks that he can see through them to whats inside, Pretty insightful for a 7 year old

my mom and i have totally oppositeviews on this. i had called her from a tattoo parlor while i was in college and told her im getting it done she threatened me and all. i settled for a butterfly. when she saw it she said it was very pretty and glad i didnt get anything to disgusting. as for my eyebrow she thought they were gross. she prefers a barbell to a ring. i got my nose pierced when my son turned 5 weeks. she laughs about and keeps sayin if my alergies act up and i sneeze its gonna be dreadful. my best girl friend got her tongue peirced at the same time, she drug me along, my mom thinks of her as her own daughter and laughed and goes what am i to do with my oldest girls? now, when i had gotten my tat my gram became gravely ill. long story. i left college after midnite and all. i had 2 make sure i saw her and she was ok, even thou we werent close anymore at the time. when she saw my butterfly she asked what had happened 2 her lil girl? i started 2 cry. she doesnt say anything else. my dad hates them but has learned 2 keep his views to himself, no longer interested in what he has 2 say about that stuff. my snotty aunt has made comments 2 my cousin in front of me. no child of mine is ever going 2 come home like that. i just laugh shes rebeling alot. my ex-fiance had a fit w/my tat and when i got my eyebrow done it was that much worse. he has this view--odd as it may be---that if we had a daughter shed look at her dad and say thats the kind of guy im to be with. however if we had a son it would be telling him its ok 4 his girl 2 have piercings and tats. which simply wasnt what HE wanted. i had 2 choose between him and removing my eyebrow ring. that was 4 yrs ago. my guy friend has no problem with it. he wants me 2 get my tongue pierced now so he can have some fun <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />!!! with my son now, i look at it this way. u teach them its a way 2 express urself. and if he comes home and says i want a tat 4 my b-day, graduation,etc. i cant sit there and yell at him 4 it. he can throw up in my face well u do!! just explain 2 ur daughter its a way u wanted 2 beautify urself and express ur individuality, but id wait a while. its like a scar. some ppl have no choice but 2 have them, others do my choice.

Reminds me of being pregnant and people touching my stomach. I was a checker in a grocery store and strangers would just rub my belly. We had to wear white shirts & ties, and one day the light hit just right and my supervisor could see my tat on my right shoulder, she FLIPPED. She stood behind me smoothing out my shirt to see it better, then asked if she could look down my shirt, and said she was worried it would offend a customer.

I just laughed, whatever.

I didn't get my first tatt until I was 25, and did it on my birthday. When my father found out he said;

"Only Sailors and Whores get tattoos!"

I happily replied,

"Well Dad, at least you'll have an easy time identifying me in the morgue when I die of some STD or a heroin overdose!"

He hasn't said anything since. lol

As for my two children, they don't mind them at all. My nine-year old asked me why I had a colouring on my shoulder, and I explained to him that it's important for people to express themselves and remember certain things about their life. That for me, it was a permanent way to remember. He thought it was cool, but that it looked like it would hurt and he doesn't like needles. We had a laugh and that was it. My four year old likes to trace the one on my back with his finger when we are hanging out. I think that kids are much more accepting than adults, so it won't relaly matter.

I only have 2 tattoos right now, but would love to have sleeves later on in life. Gonna have to save money for that as tattoos cost so much now! I have had mine for over 15 years and boy are prices outrageous! My hubby is heavily tattoed and sometimes he gets some stares. The funniest thing I ever heard was from one of his aunts who told him she liked his "decorations". His last tattoo he got this past year. It was my name on his arm. He won't wear a wedding ring because of the type of work he does and I thought that was a wonderful gesture. Connie
